The Recycling Village is the heart of the project.

What is the Recycling Village?

The uniqueness is s that all buildings are built from 100% sustainable materials and a total of over 250 tons of plastic waste are being used to build the village.
Many issues are solved at the same time:
Plastic is removed from nature, jobs are being created as well as significantly increases environmental awareness locally across all generations.

The Recycling Village is a place right next to the rainforest, where on 3ha exclusively public buildings are built.
So far we have already built the Trashbank (place where garbage is stored, separated and cleaned), the Co-Working Office (place where we accompany local people into self-employment and provide everything it takes like laptops, WiFi, ...), the Green Education Center and Green Education Cafe (place where everyone from school classes to tourists can be educated by locals about environmental issues), the Compost House (organic 'waste' is composted and processed), the Ben&Anna Sanitary House and a small toilet house.

Currently in progress are the Recycling Marketplace (place to educate and sell recycled materials that are made into new products) and the construction of the most sustainable Share sports field in the world (e.g. there is no soccer field in the village). Other buildings, such as the Culture Kitchen and a Rainforest Museum will follow.

If you plan to support our tasks in the Recycling Village, you can expect a very varied time.

There a 4 different divisions:
- Recycling Village
- (Green) Education Center
- Waste Management
- Permaculture

Depending on what is going on at the moment, you can, for example, help with the construction of buildings. Ecobricks are worked into a bamboo structure and fixed with a kind of mortar made of clay, cow dung, which serves as glue, and rice husks. Then the visible building blocks are plastered with a similar mixture to protect the plastic bottles from UV radiation. The terrain is very extensive. It is a good idea to add some seating under trees or by the nearby pond. Of course, you can also take care of the design of the garden, through flowers and other plants.
Furthermore, you can learn a lot about permaculture, disadvantages of palm-oil, how to establish waste management systems, teach english to children (and adults) and much more.

The special and unique thing about our Volunteer Program is that you there is no strict daily schedule. A few days a week there are daily activities where everyone from the Project Wings team helps where support is needed most, e.g. on Monday cleaning rivers and collecting garbage.
We want to give everyone the chance to look behind the scenes of an NGO without paying a lot of money and offering transparency in all divisions.

Typical day

Our morning activity usually starts around 8 o'clock and after everyone of the team goes to their division. You can help out 6 days a week for 3-6 hours a day.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served for you at certain times in our volunteer village. In the evening you have free time and can explore the area and/ or hang out with other volunteers, grab a cold beer and enjoy the sound of the jungle.

Free-time activities

Since the jungle and the Landak River is in front of our doors there a many different outdoor activities from hiking and seeing wild orangutans, tubing, renting a motorbike and exploring the area, visit the local market to buy fresh delicious fruits & vegetables, make roadtrips to waterfalls until going out and party, drinking cold Indonesian beer with locals in laid-bake bars and cafes.
