In Bolivia, for decades, children lived with their incarcerated parents in prison, clearly not a suitable environment for a child but rather
an environment full of violence, alcohol and drug abuse and other unhealthy backgrounds.

Due to a change in the law a few years ago, children are no longer allowed to live in prison, leaving them to stay in shelters or with

relatives. This organization takes care of these children during the day and offers them support in all kinds of areas. In this center they
receive three meals a day, homework support, psychological support and engage in other activities.

You can help this organization by giving homework support, assisting during football tournaments, shows or sport days and by

organizing smaller activities as an activity coach, such as game afternoons, dance workshops or puzzle games. Besides these

examples, you are also welcome to teach English.

Possible tasks:
  • homework support
  •  teaching English
  • sports and games
  • short term projects and workshops in dance, theater and arts
  •  creative activities.

Typical day

In the morning, after you had breakfast with you host family, you get in the trufi (the common public transport) to your project. As always, there is rush hour and traffic but you get to chitchat with the locals.

No children yet but you go to the kitchen to help prepare Lunch and before 12:00 the first kids drop in and play before you all have Lunch together.

After a short break - for the kids, not for you - they sit down and you will help them with their homework. Later you lead a small group that needs desperate help to catch up in English. You play simple conversation games and memory. As you promised you bought some paint and start to paint a mural with a selected group that the kids designed earlier that week. It's getting chaotic because every one wants to help and paint and you promise those who can't participate now, that you will show them videos from your home country later.

The afternoon passes quickly and at 5PM you take a Bus to the center, where you meet up with other volunteers to join the salsa classes you are taking for a couple of weeks now. After that you sit together in one of the many restaurants in the center drinking a glass of wine and wait to get home until the evening traffic is over.
