According to figures of the UNDP, Cambodia is one of the poorest countries in South-East Asia. Over 75% of the Cambodian population lives on less than 2 USD per day, with the figures for the countryside dramatically higher. Basic infrastructure is lacking and education levels are generally low. However, despite these problems young Cambodians are very dynamic and eager to engage themselves
This program is designed for highly motivated volunteers with a passion for assisting those less fortunate than themselves.
Responsibilities on volunteers in Cambodia, will essentially be in the form of construction work. This is a vital and important role, very much needed to ensure the health of the local people. By contributing to the construction and development of community centres such as medical rooms, libraries and schools, you are aiding in the empowerment of local communities.
On an average, you will be working for about 6 hours in a day on the project. On Monday, you will start planning the project with the coordinator assigned to you, after having breakfast. Once you plan the project and receive the relevant information, you can have lunch and then leave to work at the community location on your volunteer construction project. Once your work for the day is complete, you can then return to the centre and attend a meeting where you can provide feedback regarding the first day at your placement.
From Tuesday to Friday, your day will begin a bit early. You will be taken to the project site and assigned with particular tasks for the day. A support coordinator will be around for you during the project. Then, in the afternoon after lunch, you will work at the community location where you will continue to participate in construction and renovation activities.
Accommodation is based on single gender rooms with a maximum of 4 people per room. They have a fan, cold shower and wifi in the room and/or communal areas.
