About the program

Screening/ Medical Check-Up

We will take weights, height and BMI measurements for both the children and adults. We will also take temperature, cholesterol, blood sugar and blood pressure measurements.

In total about 3000 patients are expected to receive medical attention. They will each be given a prescription for needed medicines to pick up at our dispensary section.

Public Education

The idea is to provide public health education as part of activities for this medical outreach. We would also conduct one-on-one counseling sessions for the needed patients.

Dispensary

Medicines for common illnesses and symptoms such as cough, head ache, and colds, malaria, hypertension and arthritis will be handed out when prescription are shown.

Freebies

A stand at the venue will offer free toothbrushes, toothpastes, soaps, sanitary pads and sweets to beneficiaries

Why this Project is Important

To make healthcare accessible to ordinary communities who cannot afford to visit health centers

To offer education on health related issues or topics

To screen and offer first hand treatment and refer and refer complicated medical conditions to the regional hospital.

Exposing participants to community health issues ,challenges and how to offer soluntions.

We believe that the only way to extend our knowledge and love is to share it through medical outreach and health education. Our consultation with Senior health practitioners at the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital has shown this to be true; and that is why we put a great deal of emphasis on our Future for Africa humanitarian medical volunteer program, which actively promotes stakeholders involvement in numerous volunteer activities throughout various communities in Northern Ghana.

Typical day

Schedule: you will see how many time it takes the next time but the plan is to stay there the hole of the day making a 1-2 hour rest for lunch.

One day – one community. In the morning:
Registration* of patients and clinical stories. Look for health problems of each patient and think how we can solve them. We will try in the first time we do it, in July to not to give medication unless it is necessary (evident infection, patient with very low weight, malnourished, with a BMI less than 18.5, painkillers if any condition with pain or inflammation, gastric protector). The idea is to find health problems in the morning, and in the afternoon to do health education.

In the afternoon: HEALTH WORKSHOPS. 1) Healthy habits. 2) Reproductive & sexual health. * To register the patient you have two options: 1) With the national identity document. But, as many may not have it, you can 2) give them a paper with a code (try to plasticize it by wrapping the paper with sticky tape). For registration, the simplest way is to do it with the order of registration and with the initials of the patient’s name. For example: Patient 1 is called Olivia Newton John. Code: 1ONJ Patient 2 is called John Travolta. Code: 2JT
