About the Program

You will work closely with a humanitarian organization in Argentina that seeks to bring basic resources to children from socially vulnerable populations. The organization provides homeless children with shelter, food, schooling, and recreational activities in various children’s homes that are open 24/7. As a volunteer you will be able to choose from a variety of different projects including leading art, drama, or music classes, cooking, teaching English, playing sports, or accompanying the children on special outings. This job’s flexibility and wide range of tasks is ideal for an volunteer with multiple skills they’d like to share in order create better lives for vulnerable children.

Your tasks

You will help create a structured after school environment and build connections with the community. You will plan activities such as theater, dance, technology, and English programming, as well as tutor and assist students with homework. Be a part of the organizational and support system of this institution that works with over 100 youth. Make up games and incorporate learning into each lesson, while developing connections with local kids.

Participants can gain Spanish skills through this immersive volunteering experience as they use the language everyday conversing with children and in their free time activities. You can also gain extra Spanish practice with Mente Argentina's intensive short-term Spanish course during the first part of your volunteer experience.

Your benefits

Program coordinators from Mente Argentina provide pickup from the airport and 24 hour assistance to make sure your stay in Buenos Aires runs smoothly without any problems. We pay close attention to put interns in positions that match their abilities and interests, and give them support through the process of applying. The weekly outings and societal activities we offer help participants become familiar with and understand the Argentine lifestyle and really feel like a part of the community. You will heighten your global familiarity and get a better idea of the culture of Latin America through cross-cultural understanding. And last but not least, you get to know and cooperate with people from all over the world to achieve a collective goal and make friends for a lifetime.

Typical day

A typical day for a volunteer in the Community Outreach Program includes some hours of volunteering paired with free Mente activities in order to get to know Buenos Aires and socialize with other participants.

In the morning, the volunteer usually meets with the volunteer coordinator and their fellow volunteers and start the day together, organizing their activities and schedules. They might for example meet up around 9AM, plan the activities in order to support the students and help the moms of the community with the smaller children. Those volunteers who arrange cultural and educational activities for older students will work during the afternoons, helping the students with their homework when they finish school and offering workshops and other activities, depending on their personal interests. After traveling home to their apartments or host families, the volunteers can enjoy their free time and join the free Mente Argentina activities such as city tours, happy hours and meet ups.
