The project
This project takes place in the south part of the country in La Gi, a charming small beach town where you will experience an authentic local feel. The purpose of the project is to teach English to the children in the local schools and in this way to contribute to providing better prospects for them in the future. With the guidance and support of the local teachers, you can use the lesson plans which are based on the curriculum and match them with fun and interactive games and activities, real-life situations and conversations.
You will have a truly unique experience exploring Vietnamese culture and broadening the children’s minds!
The location
Vietnam, one of the most populated countries in the world, is a place with captivating nature, an interesting turbulent past and it enjoys a lot of interest from tourists. While its economy is growing fast and it is very much a country on the move, Vietnam has kept a lot of its traditions and has not been westernized as much as Thailand and Cambodia . One aspect which is unchanged is the traditional Vietnamese cuisine which is still preferred by the locals over anything else and is a source of pride. The country is witnessing a fast growth immediately visible in the developing cities with refurbished roads and new buildings springing up. In contrast, Vietnam’s beautiful countryside in the north along with its typical rice fields and beaches remain unchanged and ever so appealing.
Your first day will ease you into the program and introduce you to the school and all its facilities. In the afternoon you will participate in classroom activities and show the teachers your abilities. It is possible to serve as a classroom assistant or lead teacher.
The rest of the week you will spend your time teaching for 2-3 hours per day and preparing for the classes for another two hours. You will have an opportunity to get involved in all the regular activities at the school and provide assistance where it is needed. Spending time with the children and local teachers will allow you to get to know their culture better, to exchange stories and experiences and to make new friends.
