In this volunteer program in Chile you combine your passion for horses with charitable work. You work with humans and animals and you will be are plenty in the fresh air. You gain a valuable insight into horse therapy, a unique way to treat people with disabilities. Horse therapy is a method that addresses the patient's senses at various levels, allowing for rapid therapy advances. The goal is to train the patient's coordination, orientation and sense of balance. On the horse's back, physical tension can be resolved and treatment can be tracked efficiently.
The Horse Therapy Center in Santiago de Chile mainly treats younger patients with Down Syndrome, autism and other developmental disorders. The therapy gives impulses for movement and thus helps them to develop a new feeling for their body.
Your activities as a volunteer may vary. Tasks may include:
• Assist the therapist in the therapy sessions
• Therapeutic guidance of the horses (kinesiology - muscle therapy)
• Playing with the little patients
• Maintenance and cleaning of stables and facilities
• Keep children on horseback during the therapy sessions
Note: The tasks may vary. They depend on factors such as number of
volunteers, weather, season, current needs of the project, as well as
self-motivation. Not every volunteer may be fully involved in all these
tasks.
