Volunteer as a football coach in Ghana and train the kids at the "Red Lion Soccer Academy". The Red Lions are a football club sponsored by You4Ghana.

You4Ghana sponsors the Red Lion Soccer Academy since the beginning of 2017. The club consists of a U11, a U13 and a U15 team. We have rented a clubhouse where the players are fed and some also live. Our two Ghanaian coaches, who also look after the kids, would be very happy to receive support. Training takes place from Tuesday to Friday and games are played on weekends. The boys who live in the academy can also be tutored or supported in any other way. So if you have some footballing experience and enjoy training, then contact us. The Red Lions are looking forward to meeting you! Our volunteers are not restricted to one project. If you want to experience different types of work and get diverse impressions, you are welcome to work in more than one project. We are looking forward to welcoming you in Ghana!
Typical day
Since the players go to school during the week, practice starts Tuesday-Friday around 4pm. Mondays are off. On the weekend there are normally league matches. The volunteer can join the team to the matches or take the weekends off. It is recommended to work in one of our other projects in the morning before practice starts. Otherwise you will have a lot of free time. This is not mandatory though. If you want to relax, you are more than welcome to do so.
Free-time activities
Our accommodations are located in the beautiful village of Obomeng. It is part of the Kwahu Highlands in the Eastern part of the country. Since its location is high above sea level, it offers a very pleasant climate for Europeans. During your stay you will be staying either in our volunteer house or with a host family. The Kwahu Highlands offer plenty of opportunities for day trips. At nearby Lake Volta you can take a boat trip or go swimming. Diverse hiking trails to the peaks of the mountains offer wonderful views over the valleys and the Ghanaian jungle. At the markets in the larger villages, many exciting things can be purchased, and during the rainy season, the numerous waterfalls offer an alternative shower. At Easter, people from all over Ghana come to Kwahu to celebrate the biggest festival of the country. Nothing compares to this crazy event! Anyone planning on coming to Ghana around this time should not miss the Easter celebration.

Requirements
In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the program start date. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s) or if your are accompanied by your parents.

Pick up from the airport to the accomodation provided. Driving time: 2-3 hours depending on traffic.
In our volunteer houses up to 20 people can be accommodated in single or double bedrooms. Showers with running water and electricity are available. In addition, water tanks are available in case of water shortage. The rooms are lockable and equipped with mosquito protection.All houses have common areas for social gatherings and eating together. Located near the volunteer houses there are many bars where you can have a refreshing drink after work or celebrate with the locals on the weekends
Three meals a day are provided in our accommodations by our cook. She cooks a variation of European and Ghanaian food so you can get used to the Ghanaian cuisine.
Good access at the project site
Visa, flights, travel insurance or vaccinations are NOT included in the program fees.
The nearest airport is Kotoka International Airport (ACC) in Accra. We assist you to find cheap flights to Ghana.
Going abroad is an adventure and it is always best to be prepared. Sudden illness or injury, cancellation or theft - a travel insurance for Ghana provides security and is a plus to have.
If you are intending to volunteer in Ghana you should seek medical advice before starting your social journey. Check your required vaccinations for Ghana.

will let you know about the final price during your application process.
The deposit is simply to reserve your volunteer placement. Payments are handled by PayPal, our trusted global payment provider. If you don't have a PayPal account, you can also pay using a credit card.
Your final payment will be agreed with You4Ghana e.V. during the application process. Common solutions are either via bank transfer or a cash payment at the project site.
