We are ambitious to grow the organisation into a well established institution with stronger structures including fundraising and partnerships. We therefore wish to add on our team a person who will support the our organisation to establish strong fundraising and partnership strategies and enable the organisation to meet the needs of the communities.
We work Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 4:30pm although sometimes it depends on what needs to be accomplished. Typical working days start with staff meeting to review the tasks at hand including following up on the unfinished ones and planning for the next. Then everyone will get to work on their assigned tasks including those going to the field or attend external meetings. We have team breakfast at 10:30 am and lunch at 1:00 pm at office
However flexibility is very important at this level
After work, volunteers may decide to do some sports, visit down town among others. Our staff will help the volunteers to work on their choices.
Over the weekends there are social events like the transitional dances, movies and walks. You can also choose to visit the beach, hiking among others. Free free to ask what you would like to do and we will work towards fixing it.
The program fees above
will be your humble contribution to the organisation as well as ensuring that
your stay with us is meaningful and enjoyable. The program fees will contribute
to
IN KAMPALA CITY:
While in Kampala city, our volunteers will be hosted by partner families and in most cases these families belong or are families where our staff and local volunteers live. This means you will live with our staff and local volunteers. We are working on establishing an independent volunteer house will be cater for accommodation of all international volunteers. You will be allocated a conducive room, bed and mattress during your stay. Most of the bathrooms and toilets are inside the house.
IN EASTERN UGANDA:
For a better experience of an African village but with
comfort, all our Volunteers are accommodated in our local community home where
they live with other family members and volunteers become part of the family.
We have semi permanent simple community houses where the volunteers will live
with other family members.
Because its a local community with limited
access to electricity, the houses have solar for only lighting and charging
phones/tabloids/cameras. Some houses have a cemented floor and the walls are
made of bricks and other houses are made of grass thatched roof but professionally
designed to provide comfort to the guests. The choice is yours. There is a
shared pit latrine and shares two bathrooms constructed outside the houses.
Volunteers are free to come with camping tents to be used in
case of community camps/trips when necessary.
There is a wide, green compound (Except dry seasons) with a number of fruits
like oranges, mangoes, pawpaws, jack fruit, avocados among others.
Each volunteer will be allocated a separate room, within the main house, a bed,
mattress and pair of bed sheets though volunteers are encouraged to carry their
bed-sheets. Sometimes volunteers are requested to share a room with
another volunteer or if they come in groups or family, they may share one
house.
Our offices are located about, 10 minutes by motorbike from the accommodation
(residence) place.
AT ALL RESIDENCES
While at the residence, the volunteers will share local food with the host family members, where the volunteer may participate in preparing, cooking and serving local foods within the family especially during her free time and weekends.
Local foods like Posho, millet, sweet potatoes among others will be the main food especially while up-country during your stay but once in a while we will have modern dishes although we encourage that the volunteers should try to get used to local foods as much as possible to enable them have a better experience of Africa.
Meals
at Office.
Most cases while at office, we have our lunch meals at office both in Kampala
and up-country office. We mostly make our meals and different volunteers are
assigned the roles to support in shopping, preparing food, cooking and serving.
We do this as family and team work.
We accept volunteers throughout the year including those staying for a minimum of two weeks and at least a maximum of one year however the volunteer is free to stay as long as he/she wishes. For this particular placement we are open to receive applications as soon as next week.
We do not meet your costs of airport pick up from the airport however we can and always support our volunteers to plan or arrange a cab/taxi to pick them from the airport to office. Our staff in charge will also be available at the airport to welcome you to Uganda and navigate you through to the office and place of residence.
This program is paused due to COVID-19
