About the program

This is an in-country shadowing program with provided shared housing and local team support.

Interns will have the opportunity to observe medical procedures side-by-side doctors, surgeons, nurses and other staff and participate in the daily routine, across various departments and specialties. The shadowing program is designed to rotate through all major departments and can be customized according to the intern’s area of medical interest. The medical team is mostly trained or worked abroad in the UK or USA, eliminating any language barriers and offering international expertise.

This program is important as it offers pre-med, pre-health & graduates students the opportunity to gain top quality experience interning in the medical field. Interns will get to see the health care differences between countries, all medical specialties that a hospital can offer and be able to decide on their future career path. With valuable experience, you’ll develop your skills and understanding of different medical professions.

Anesthesiology, Cardiology, Dialysis, Emergency Room, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, General Surgery, Hematopathology, Intensive Care Unit, Nuclear Medicine, Orofacial Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Oncology, Pediatrics, Pneumology, Radiology



Typical day

At the start of each week a shadowing schedule is drafted between you and the coordinating doctor to rotate through all major departments.

Your day will begin at 9am following your shadowing schedule and see clinics, surgeries and diagnostics with the medical staff explaining everything in English. ..

Your day will begin at 9am following your shadowing schedule and see clinics, surgeries and diagnostics with the medical staff explaining everything in English. Expect to end your shadowing each day at around 4-5pm depending on surgery duration and clinic rotations.

During your weekends you can travel to near by cities, towns or take the ferry to one of the hundreds of picturesque islands.

Minimum Age: 18 years

In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the program start date. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s) or if your are accompanied by your parents.

Language Skills

You need to speak English (fluently)

Education Requirements

At least one year of undergraduate study completed, with a relevant scientific major such as biology, chemistry, neuroscience, behavioral sciences, physics etc. at College level

Required Documents

CV, Passport copy, Profile Photo, Criminal Background Check and Vaccination Certificate

We will review your application and if we accept you on this internship we will ask for you to pay a non-refundable deposit to secure your place. The remaining of your internship fees (less your initial deposit payment) will be due no less than 30 days before your internship start date.

Airport Pickup at Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport

Internships start on Mondays and you will have the choice to participate in the program between a minimum of 2 weeks or up to a maximum of 12 weeks.

The program fees include a free airport pickup on Sunday before the start date on Monday. To qualify for the free pickup interns are required to arrive between 9am-6pm. At the airport interns will be welcomed and transferred to their housing. For interns arriving at an earlier date, a pickup maybe provided if requested and subject to availability.

COVID: Full vaccination is required to participate to the internship. A PCR, at own cost (€50), is required on Saturday or Sunday before the Monday internship start date and it has to be conducted at the hospital’s testing center (48-hour validity before stating the internship) and/or a weekly rapid test at own cost (€10). If you are having symptoms then there is an immediate requirement for a PCR test, at own cost (€50). If you are tested positive at any stage or have been in contact with a confirmed case, then the host site is requiring you to self-isolate for 8 days and then return to the internship site.

Accommodation

  • The accommodation is fully furnished (single or double beds)
  • with WiFi
  • shared with 1-6 other same-sex interns 
  • located in safe areas with easy access to public transport and close to the hospital. 
  • The last night at the accommodation is Friday night in the final week, leaving interns free to depart on Saturday. Extra nights of accommodation or private apartments can be arranged in advance, if requested and subject to availability.

Details on arrival

The program operates throughout the year except for August and the two weeks around New Years Day.
