    About the program

For those who enjoy the great outdoors and adventure, this project is ideal! At the base of the Chilean Andes, in a breathtakingly picturesque, nearly unspoiled setting of lakes, crystal-clear rivers, mountains, and primordial forest, lies a 3000 hectare natural park managed by our volunteer project. Within the protected region, one may see characteristic habitats of southern Chile: temperate rainforests with millennial trees supporting a diverse array of wildlife species.

A well-managed ecotourism project is the only way to open up this enchanted region of the world to the public without causing harm. While visitors are welcome, the preservation of nature is of utmost importance. In order to ensure that the capacity is never surpassed and that the normal course of events is not disturbed, only a restricted number of people may stay there at once.

There are 18 km of hiking routes throughout the park for hikers to explore, and they can stay in either a basic mountain hut in the center of the park or a more opulent lodge on its periphery. Kayaking is a fantastic method to see this tiny paradise, as it is adjacent to Lake Tagua Tagua.

Volunteers ought to be proactive and hands-on. There are numerous jobs to be done, including working as a tour guide, maintaining mountain huts and hiking paths, maintaining the information center, working in the forest, and much more.

Because the project is so remote, you should be conscious of how special it is. Sometimes it's unusually quiet and desolate. Only on days off are the closest cities, Puerto Varas and Puerto Montt, accessible by bus, each taking around three hours.

    Typical day

The responsibilities involved in this endeavor vary according on the season and weather. There's a lot of service-related work as well as tour guide duties, during the summer months when most visitors arrive. To ensure that hiking paths, footbridges, bridges, and mountain huts are in good shape and that there are no mishaps or problems, during the pre-season everything must be meticulously arranged.

Following the season, there may be construction work to be done, an inventory to be completed, and plans to be made for winter and the upcoming season.

You might find the following chores on your list of things to do:

    • Help at the visitor center
    • Greeting and educating park guests
    • Support for tour guiding
    • Upkeep of the hiking routes
    • Upkeep and sanitation of the mountain huts
    • Forestry work
    • Assisting park rangers
    • Additional duties related to the preservation of nature and wildlife

There are no regular working hours, as is typical while working outside and in the highlands. In Patagonia, the workload and working days are determined by the weather. People typically work longer hours in nice weather and have more relaxed days in bad weather. Depending on the season, the workload is another consideration when volunteering. If we needed to define an example day, work shifts start early in the morning at around 7:30 am and finish in the early afternoon at around 4:30 pm with a long lunch break in between.

Note: There may be variations in the tasks. The quantity of volunteers, the weather, the time of year, the project's present requirements, and self-motivation are some of the variables that affect them. Maybe not every volunteer will take on all of these responsibilities.

The program is situated in one of Chile's most stunning and pristine regions, more than 1,000 kilometers south of Santiago. The park is only accessible by boat and is situated on Lake Tagua Tagua's southern shore. It takes roughly three hours by car and boat to get to the closest big cities, Puerto Montt and Puerto Varas.

Despite being well-known for its natural beauty throughout Chile, the area is still considered an insider tip because of its remote location and basic infrastructure, which makes this place so unique!

To view the most exquisite pearls, you must hike (you can even ride horses along the main hiking trails) or even find them by boat. A remarkable natural beauty will be bestowed upon everybody who makes the necessary efforts. The terrain, which supports a wide variety of animals and plants, is made up of steeply climbing rocks, tiny lagoons that beckon you to swim in, crystal-clear rivers, and waterfalls amid the ancient forest.

The weather is temperate and frequently rains, even from December to February during the summer. Summertime highs reach approximately 25 degrees. The months of May through August feature the lowest temperatures and the most rainfall, including snowfall.
