About Us

The Third Eye Foundation Nepal is a social, non profit, charitable Organization with the aim of making the world a better place to live. Our major two goals are helping the local community by working as a catalyst between Donor agencies, Charities etc and local targeted groups and on the other hand providing volunteer opportunities to local and International volunteers who are seeking volunteering position in Nepal.

Agriculture in Nepal

Nepalis major economic sector is agriculture. More than 80% of the population in Nepal are depended on agriculture. Nepal is a country of geographical diversity. Diverse types of crops and vegetables are grown here in different seasons ranging from lower land called Terai (60m) to High Himalayan region. Agriculture in Nepal is still done traditionally and it is just enough for survival.
Agricultural work in Nepal is taken as celebration and cultural practice. The cultural aspect of Nepali agriculture is so unique. Nepal celebrates different agriculture related festivals like ropai jatra (paddy plantation ceremony), Daai festival ( the paddy harvest ceremony). The nature worship and agricultural worship are part of animism which is still among farmers.

About the Program

Agricultural volunteer program will give you an opportunity to live together with local host farmer families, learning agricultural practices carried out by them since ages, and taking part in agricultural work. This program will let you experience the local life in Nepal. The research orientated and culture orientated volunteers can take part in this program. If you are born in a city and have no experience of the agricultural life, you will learn a lot and may be you will wonder what life means to these people. The rural parts of Nepal still gives you the opportunity to experience medieval time. When you live in a farm house, you will get the chance to milk animals in the traditional way, eat tree ripened fruits and much more.
Learn different native techniques from this agricultural volunteer program. For example learn to make Gundruk ( the dried fermented leafy vegetable product), wave gundri (mat from straw),  make blankets from wool, churn the curd to produce ghee etc. Learn the ideas and techniques from local Nepali people so when you go back to your country you can grow plants in Nepali way. In this program you will get chance to learn about different medicinal plants and there use. Ploughing the field  and using oxen can be matter of fun for you. These small experiences will transform your life and make you more wise. Be a local everywhere to know.

About the project

This program enriches your life experience by being a local like in nepal experiencing homestay, cultural exchange and other agriculture activities.

Meet your organization

Nepal is one of the most beautiful, culturally rich and welcoming countries in the world. It is home to Mount Everest, the birthplace of Buddha, and an astonishingly beautiful and diverse landscape, ranging from the well-known peaks of the Himalaya to the low-lying regions of the Terai. The Nepali people are as diverse at the geography, with over 70 languages or dialects and scores of traditional festivals celebrated throughout the year.

Volunteering in Nepal can be an extremely rewarding and life-changing experience. Your efforts can bring great changes in the lives of individual people and the wider community. This cannot be said enough. In the difficult times that Nepal is now facing, your contribution of time or resources is extremely valuable.

However, Nepal is also one of the most under-developed countries in the world, with low rates of literacy, high rates of poverty and a persistent gender imbalance. The government is frequently unable to provide adequate education and health facilities throughout the country and both urban and rural areas are forced to live without necessary resources to promote growth and development of their communities.
