Join us on an ecological sanctuary in the Pantanal Highlands and work along with a team of earth angels who’s objective is to identify key ecological and landscape features to better understand conservation threats on key frugivore species endangered with the growing trend of deforestation and habitat destruction. While at it, gain knowledge and experience in a region that so many dream of exploring.
Located 260 Km from the Capital of Mato Grosso do Sul – Campo Grande, on the Bodoquena-Pantanal Corridor, is is also adjacent to a resort town called Bonito where tourists from all over the world com to snorkel in the crystal clear waters, and experience the amazing wildlife and landscape. The region is quite unique in many aspects, e.g., remaining forest remnants with unique limestone spring formations. Both Bodoquena and the famous sister town Bonito , are favorite tourist resort towns because of the gorgeous landscape, clear rivers that you can snorkel in, water falls, > 400 bird species, and amazing wildlife. The project is composed of Ph.D professors, and their graduate students who are all working towards the conservation goal of maintaining the regional biodiversity. Join us and get hands on experience in the Bonito-Bodoquena region; from setting camera traps, following wildlife trails, fruit census, botanical survey in exclusion plots; community environmental education activities, data entry and tail maintenance while working along with scientist, graduate students and locals.
This program is an ecology conservation volunteer Program that allow you to experience and learn a lot about the Pantanal Bonito-Bodoquena region while assisting a family to continue their mission. Duties and tasks will be a learning phase and other day duties and tasks will vary depending on what the program for the day is. Volunteer will have a diversity of Tasks, such as:
- Wildlife Monitoring (Peccaries and lowland Paca).
- Capturing and Radio Tracking and Data Collecting.
- Fruit Experiments, Wildlife Scat Analysis (Testing germination of native seeds), Trail Maintenance, Native fruit Census, Animal Observation and Set up Fruit Removal Experiments.
- Environmental Education and Reforestation.
- General Home chores and In General, all participants will participate in an important conservation effort, experience a new culture and witness the beauty and diversity of a spectacular ecological sanctuary.
The Typical day varies depending on the season and so we expect volunteers to be flexible regarding projects and tasks.
