This programs aims to support the animals like dog and cats in Kathmandu valley under the government registered private vet clinics to hospitals. This kind of animals can be private owned or public street dogs or cats from the community.
Para veterinary workers will assist a veterinary physician in the performance of their duties, or carry out animal health procedures autonomously as part of a veterinary care system. The job role varies throughout the world, and common titles include veterinary nurse, veterinary technician, veterinary assistant and veterinary technologist, and variants with the prefix of 'animal health'.
This program is likely to bring the young's and energetic volunteers in Nepal and also helping the local animals and also the vet staffs at the same time with the new technique they are learning lately
ROUTINE CLINICAL CASES SEEN AT OUR PROJECT SITE
Routine sterilization (spay and Neuter)

About the program
VETERINARIANS
Veterinarian program include hands-on in clinical examination, preventive care, vaccinations, diagnostics, radiology (X-ray & USG), Ophthalmology, Dentistry, Dermatology, Tramatology & Orthopedics, Soft tissue surgeries in one of the amazing place in this world.
Learn new skills or improve on existing skills, observing and actively participating in Spay and neutering, see a large variety of trauma, dermatology, ophthalmology cases, dental work, participating and hosting in different lectures organized by the clinic, do physical exam and general consultations, teaching your skills to the staff.
Share your knowledge in field of your specialty with vets of Nepal.
Learn the techniques, how to work with limited resources.
Minimum Qualification & Experience
Must hold a veterinary qualification (DVM / BVSc or equivalent or Masters) & recognized in their own council in their own country.
We accept both experienced veterinarian volunteers with clinical experience & non- experienced who is willing to gain experience in developing country.
This is ideal for professionals and new graduates.
New graduates and final year veterinary students are encouraged to volunteer as veterinary support staff.
What will you achieve?
As the medical equipment and general conditions are not as good as in developed countries, this is a great opportunity for you to see a different side of veterinary science and improve your skills in ways you might not have expected.
Those inexperienced in actual medical techniques will learn a lot, but you will also be able to help our licensed vets by sharing your knowledge of Western veterinary practice with them.
VET NURSES
You will be involved in Dental Exam, teaching to the clients, assist and actively participate in surgery, Xray, vaccination-de worming, post operatic care, emergency cases, take care of admitted patient, physiotherapy, participate in consultation and general exam, do different treatment, participating and hosting in different lectures organized by the clinic, blood work, teaching your skills to the staff.
Minimum Qualification & Experience
Must have a Certificate in Veterinary Nursing or Bachelor of Veterinary Technology/Nursing, or equivalent.
We accept both experienced & freshly graduated Vet nurse / Vet Tech.
Role of Veterinary Technician
This is a hands-on program geared towards veterinary professionals where the volunteer will be working with our full-time vets, monitoring and caring for the animals at our hospital.
Learn how to do blood work and vaccination, post-operative care, dressing, weight the animal, clean and take care of the kennel, prepare and feed the animal, walk the dogs and take them on small hikes, daily enrichment, help the veterinarian and technician in daily tasks, participate in different lecture host by the clinic, teaching your skills to the staffs.
VET STUDENTS / VET NURSING STUDENTS
Both vet Students & Vet Nursing students are only authorized to perform their duties as vet assistant.
They must work under supervision and follow the guidelines given by PCAH veterinarian.
VET ASSISTANT & GENERAL VOLUNTEERS
Can only help the PCAH staffs in cleaning kennels, walking with dogs, feeding, providing water, maintaining the cleaningness of the hospital and other administrative help.
Duties : Based on your interests, skills, and experience, we will determine how you can best help us. Sometimes, you will do various fieldwork activities, such as animal welfare educational outreach.
Walk inpatient dogs
Grooming – Bathe/Brush
Clean eyes and ears (use cotton wool & water)
Fleas, worms, weight loss fur loss, cuts – alert staff if you see any
Dog hiking in the afternoon
Clean and fill water bowls
Training – train dogs how to sit, lie down, stay, etc
Food preparation and feeding
Make sure each dog in a cage has a clean, dry blanket
Do basic treatments like dressing change

Relationship with Staff:
Volunteers and staff are considered partners and must respect each other and their work. Volunteers enhance the work of staff. It is essential to maintain this relationship that each partner understands and respects each other. Volunteers shall follow all protocols and direction as established by PCAH. Health & Safety for volunteers
The volunteer's personal safety, as well as the safety of other volunteers, staff and the animals, is paramount when volunteering. There are many risks associated with the work that a volunteer does, but these will be minimized if the volunteer understands and follows the established safety procedures and the instructions of staff.
Volunteers should take the following steps to minimize risks.
Familiarize themselves with the staff and other volunteers on their shift.
Only perform tasks they have been trained to do.
Ask for assistance when needed.
Ask for assistance when needed.
Avoid any interaction with animals in kennels/ cages designated " Staff only".
Clean their hands frequently using antibacterial soap or the hand sanitizer found by sinks in every room.
Wash hands after cleaning any animal or cage, after handling dirty laundry, before eating, before touching their mouth, and when leaving their shift.
Wear closed-toed shoes, long pants, and t-shirts to prevent injury from scratches and bites.
Bringing along a change of clothes and shoes is recommended.
When to NOTIFY
Stay home when they are ill.
Inform a staff member immediately if they get scratched bitten or cut.
Volunteers who are pregnant may require permission from a doctor to continue volunteering.
Notify the vet or volunteer coordinator if they have a compromised immune system.
Keep food and beverages in designated volunteer area at the location and never consume anywhere else.
Do not bring valuables into the facility.
Immediately report any safety hazards to a PCAH staff member.
Never handle an animal without proper training. Ask staff to help if they feel uncomfortable handling an animal.
Familiarize themselves with the emergency evacuation procedures and the location of the first aid kit and eye- wash stations.
Volunteer’s Responsibility:
1. In Consultation: Assist the Vet & Help the assistant.
2. In Treatment & in in-patient: Hold the patient during treatment & X-ray.
3. In OT: Assisting the Surgeon and helping the nurse/Assistant.
4: In Living Room
No smoking inside the room.
No alcoholic drinks inside the entire hospital premises.
Used plates and glasses should be cleaned by the person and placed in the right place.
Food must be taken from the kitchen and should be consumed downstairs only.
Keep the room tidy at all times.
No used clothes on bed or in the room.
Need to do their own laundry on their own.
