This project seeks to alleviate food needs, based on food security programs that guarantee beneficiary families a new healthy food alternative for the family. This volunteer program is especially suitable for:

The aim of the project is to transform family backyards that used to be rubbish dumps into green vegetable gardens, improving the landscape, capturing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals. releasing oxygen and aligning ourselves with the Sustainable Development Goals.

Tasks are carried out such as:

  • Training beneficiaries on agricultural issues, agronomic management of harvested species and post-harvest.
  • Harvesting.
  • Building productive patios with the families.
  • Delivering of inputs for the creation of productive patios.
  • Sowing, harvesting and collecting products to supply some of the food needs of the beneficiaries supported in the workshops of beneficiaries supported in the cooking and psychosocial workshops to improve family nutrition and family relationships.
  • Carrying out technical follow-up.
  • Conducting cooking and nutrition workshops and create good eating habits.
  • Conduct trainings on recycling and solid waste management.

Typical day

Volunteers usually arrive at the project at 8:00 am and are briefed on the activities scheduled for that day. They take a lunch break and continue working until around 2 or 3 pm.

THE BEACHES
Depending on where you go, you can go to some of these beaches, such as El Laguito and Castillogrande, which are possibly the most visited beaches in the city.

THE ISLANDS OF EL ROSARIO
A place where you can find truly beautiful beaches, quiet and with the possibility to do many activities during the day.

Require­ments

In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the program start date. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s) or if your are accompanied by your parents.
Language Skills
You need to speak English (basic level) or Spanish (basic level)

You must be aware of the culture and customs of the country in which you are working.

Your helping hand will be required on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday

Airport Pickup at Rafael Nunez International Airport
  • You must arrive at Rafael Núñez International Airport (CTG), where you will be picked up by the coordinator of the local organisation.
  • The pick-up time is from 8:00 to 21:00 hours.
  • Arrival days are Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays, in order to facilitate your incorporation into the project.
    Accommodation
    All volunteers stay in hostels selected by the organisation. They are usually located in safe areas close to the walled city.
    Accommodation provides:
    • Bed, in a shared room
    • Breakfast during your volunteer placement
    • Use of common areas
    • WIFI (internet)

    We provide one breakfast per day during your stay.

    What's NOT included?
    Visa, flights, travel insurance or vaccinations are NOT included in the program fees.
    Flight Tickets
    The nearest airport is Rafael Nunez International Airport (CTG) in Cartagena. We assist you to find cheap flights to Colombia.
    Travel Insurance
    Going abroad is an adventure and it is always best to be prepared. Sudden illness or injury, cancellation or theft - a travel insurance for Colombia provides security and is a plus to have.
    Vaccines
    If you are intending to volunteer in Colombia you should seek medical advice before starting your social journey. Check your required vaccinations for Colombia.

    Arrival days are Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays, in order to facilitate your joining the project.

    The organization charges its fees in EUR. The price table in USD is subject to currency fluctuation. Adventure Volunteer will let you know about the final price during your application process.
    Deposit (15%)
    The deposit is simply to reserve your volunteer placement. Payments are handled by PayPal, our trusted global payment provider. If you don't have a PayPal account, you can also pay using a credit card.
    Final Payment (85%)
    Your final payment will be agreed with Adventure Volunteer during the application process. Common solutions are either via bank transfer or a cash payment at the project site.
