Help protect the amazing Costa Rican rainforest! Support this project by maintaining trails, reforestation, and guiding visitors on educational tours. This volunteer program is especially suitable for:
Age 18+

The volunteer project takes place at an eco-lodge in Costa Rica, which has German origin. In addition to ecotourism, an extensive nature conservation program is offered in a vast area of 850 hectares of land. The lodge is located 35km southwest of Limon, not far from the beautiful Caribbean coast of Costa Rica. The protected area is at the edge of the famous La Amistad National Park, known for its breathtaking biodiversity.

The eco-lodge welcomes guests from all over the world and, in addition to spending the night in cozy accommodation, offers trips (on horseback or on foot) to the rainforest. The lodge works very hard to conserve the rainforest and defend it against deforestation. They are very committed to the conservation of local flora and fauna and serve as a role model. About 70,000 people in the Limon area get clean drinking water through the water conservation project that is operated by the lodge.

As a volunteer, you learn a lot about the primary rainforest, which is, so to speak, the basis of your volunteer work. The rainforest is the natural habitat of thousands of exotic animals and plants. We have to protect it!!

Typical day

During your volunteer work at the eco-lodge, you can help with a variety of tasks. You support the "guardabosques", the forest guards, and you also will get tasks in the operation of the lodge.

Support the "guardabosques" (forest guards)

  • Cleaning forest paths of growth and garbage
  • Creating new forest trails
  • Marking and maintaining paths and trails
  • Helping with regular patrols to watch and observe the wildlife
  • Collecting data of plants and animals
  • Observing exotic mammals and birds in nature
  • Reforestation

Support the eco-lodge and tourists

  • Taking care of guests
  • Helping with activities in the rainforest
  • Guiding guests on excursions in the rainforest (as guide’s assistant or translator)
  • Feeding and taking care of the lodge’s horses
Note: The tasks may vary. They depend on factors such as number of volunteers, weather, season, current needs of the project, as well as self-motivation. Not every volunteer may be fully involved in all these tasks.

Free-time activities

Weekends are the perfect time to enjoy an exciting hike through Costa Rican nature since the main attractions of Costa Rica is its system of national parks and protected areas, which cover around 25% of the national territory, in order to protect the rich variety of flora and fauna, which is estimated to contain 5% of the world's biodiversity in less than 0.1% of the planet's land mass. In addition, Costa Rica has countless amazing beaches on both the Pacific and the Caribbean Ocean.
