About the program

The Program

This project is run by us for construction and renovation challenges where volunteers work in a team alongside local craft people to complete time limited challenges to improve rundown community building, renovate schools and painting walls.

While renovating community houses, the volunteers will work mainly in local child care centers and local schools.

The renovating includes

  • whitening washing the walls
  • colouring the walls
  • writing words on the walls
  • painting pictures and alphabets

The main focus of our work is to improve public facilities by renovating schools and helping to build, paint and decorate where it is needed.

Alongside to this, there is a need to bring attention and awareness to relevant social issues such as good hygiene and health care to help involve and educate villagers at the same time. Materials, which the volunteers need to fulfil this program, are provide by us.

Clothing

India is a very diverse country with cultural and weather fluctuations. It is good to wear decent and comfortable clothes. It not only protects from the extremes of weather, but also protects you from mosquitoes. It is also suggested for the volunteers (especially for female volunteers) not to wear exposing clothes, as it is not preferred in Indian culture.

While going to project sites it is highly recommended that all our participants wear long trousers or pants and round neck t-shirts or shirts, which will help you gain lots of respect in the communities we work in. We also arranged Indian traditional clothes for our female volunteers (salwar kameez) that will cost extra small charges.

What you should pack

Bring clothes, sleeping bags and sleeping sheets according to the local weather conditions of the project area. Furthermore you will need sunscreen, mosquito repellent, a headlight or a torch, a water bottle, a raincoat or an umbrella for the monsoon season, which is from late July to early September. The cold season is from late October to early March and the summer season is from early April to late June.

We do not provide any toiletries or towels, hence bring some along with your clothes. In case of extra requirements, they can be purchased from nearby markets.

Visa

In order to work as an English language instructor, we strongly recommend a tourist visa, which can be obtained by post from the Indian Embassy/ Indian High Commission in your home country.

Security and health

The volunteers’ security is our first priority! All the volunteer placements sites are perfectly safe. The volunteer house in situated in a safe neighbourhood and comes with a security (night) guard.

First-aid is available in the volunteer house, however any specific medication should be brought along with proper prescription.

Airport Pickup at Gaggal Airport

To embark on our transformative programs, individuals first journey to Delhi International Airport. Regardless of the chosen route, our team ensures a seamless transition, extending a warm welcome with airport pickups and the reassuring presence of our coordinator throughout the Volvo journey.

Accommodation

Our large volunteer house in Dharamshala is basic but clean. It is situated in a safe neighbourhood and comes with a security (night) guard. The rooms are provided with bunk beds for four people. All rooms have attached or non-attached bathrooms with a toilet (toilet paper will be provided). Moreover you can mention your food related allergies and it will be kept in mind while preparing the food.

2022 at Renovating of Community Houses

Although it can be terrifying to go to a place by yourself, I felt safe with Mohinder and Avneesh after the first day! I loved the painting in the school, the trips in the car and the food that has ruined my own cooking forever. I will miss the dogs, Mohinder's ringtone, the day and weekend trips ...
