Mafanikio School development programme is currently running in Eco-Green School in Kilifi county respectively. The school has a total of 400+ pupils and the programme is aimed at developing the infrastructures in this school. Mafanikio supports the school through provision of text books, desks, stationary and mentorship of the students.

Eco-Green School

Miwani School is located in Mbogolo village, Malindi constituency, Kilifi County. It is approximately 2 hours from the city of Mombasa. Malindi is on the north coast of Kenya, a tourist destination that boasts of white sands beaches, unique features and historical sites. Seedling is within the township of Malindi. 

Background information


Eco-Green has a population of 106 who come from the surrounding villages. The school is in the heart of the community and enjoys a spacious field with 4 permanent classrooms with six toilets respectively.  The school construction work is still in progress. Currently, there are 4 teachers who teach grade 1-4 respectively. It is in the remote area which is bare with very limited trees.

Project description
The volunteers shall live and work together with the local communities while promoting inter-cultural interaction and integration.  Some of the activities include:

  • Teaching Maths, English, Hygiene & Nutrition, Environmental studies & Physical education
  • Sports activities
  • Community activities
  • Mentorship
Meals and Accommodation

The volunteers live in a volunteer house with shared bedrooms and shall prepare their meals which will be provided.  The house has an equipped kitchen, dining, spacious living room & a lounge. Some of the meals include;

  • Tea/coffee
  • Bread
  • Chapati
  • Beans stew
  • Beef stew
  • Chicken
  • Rice
  • Vegetables etc.
School Location 

The school is located in Mbogolo village which is about 10 kilometers away from the city where the volunteer house is.  Therefore, there is commuting to and from from Monday to Friday. The mode of transport is mainly motorbikes at a fee of 1.5 euros per day.

In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the program start date. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s) or if your are accompanied by your parents.

Details on arrival

The commencement of the programme is on week days. It is advisable for the volunteers to come over the weekend so that they can have time to settle and familiarize before they begin their work.

Mafanikio is a non profit making oragnizatio that was established in 2003 to promote education and development and alleviate poverty especially in rural and margainzlized areas in Kenya.

Mafanikio works with margainlized areas in Makueni, Kwale and Kilifi county to promote education and social development through the volunteer programme.

The volunteer & internship programme provides an opportunity for volunteers to work hand in hand with local community and also experience grass root level.
