In Valencia, many children face significant problems such as lack of adequate food, lack of people who care for them, lack of tutoring, domestic violence, behavioural problems, and difficulties adapting to their environment. That is why, in this program our main goal is supporting the children facing these problems by trying to diminish such problems as much as possible. We want to create a safe space for children facing these problems and to make up for those problems. We strive to generate secure and solid attachments for children, as they will ensure these children the best conditions to develop and educate themselves in.
Through this program, you will directly help improve children's self-esteem and confidence, social skills, autonomy, and academic skills.
As a volunteer, there are two shifts you may collaborate with. The tasks you may perform vary depending on the shift:
Morning shift:
During this shift, volunteers perform tasks that are mainly related to supporting children that aren't going to school, aged 0-6 years. Our focus is helping children positively incorporate into the school environment; that is why all of the activities shall be based around experiences or play, as this helps children get immersed in an environment of affection and trust, something that ensures a good development pace for the children's self-esteem and social integration.
Some activities you may be doing are:
- Supporting the early stimulation of children through activities that improve vision and hearing, as well as activities that enhance language and social development.
- Helping the development of the children's linguistic skills through dialogue and other activities.
- Using colours, shapes, and other didactic resources to enhance the children's visual-spatial intelligence.
- Supporting the tutors that help the children during their periodic meetings.
- Among many other activities that can help these children.
Afternoon shift:
During this shift, volunteers perform tasks that are mainly related to supporting children in their school tasks. Our focus in this shift is strengthening children's social skills, academic skills, autonomy, maturity, and fostering good habits and values in these children such as responsibility, order, and punctuality.
Some activities you may be doing are:
- Supporting children in the development of their daily school tasks.
- Helping children with learning difficulties.
- Encouraging children to adopt healthy study habits
- Among many other activities.
