Our volunteer program as a School Teacher is very important in the project progress. We need people who are very dynamic, who know how to communicate with children and young people to instill important topics related to Environmental Education. We do not require previous experience, according to your aptitutes the volunteers will have different activities, from helping to the preparation of the environmental education classes, elaboration of the didactic material for the classes, assistance in the classes doing games for the children or for young people, etc. The most experienced volunteers will be able to lead their own classes, propose topics, develop new workshops. Volunteers who know how to speak English and Spanish can lead or support English classes.

The project

The general problem that exists in this area of the Amazon is the uncontrolled use of natural resources by unscrupulous people, which causes many losses of wildlife. All animals that come to our center were rescued from illegal traffic or hunting, then there is a great work to be done to create awareness in the children and young people of the communities near the habitat of these animals in danger, we must bring them information in a didactic and precise way so they will learn the consequences of the economic practices that affect the environment and species, in addition to offering them education options so they can think about a better future.

Volunteer work

The volunteer program for school teacher includes the following activities in general:

  • Elaboration of teaching material for the classes
  • Teamwork to determine the order of the topics that will be discussed
  • Support to the program leader within the classes
  • Elaboration of their own class, in case they want to develop a specific theme
  • Give ideas for new topics
  • Organize the students in groups and supervise that they carry out the activities of the workshop
  • The best students are invited to the rescue center to be "volunteers for a day", activity in which they help the volunteers of "Wildlife Care", then the volunteers of the Education Program must supervise them and reinforce the topics treated in classes

The volunteers must be mainly responsible, has passion for their work and they have to be very observant, and can contribute ideas and improvements in the education process. All ideas and improvements that can be implemented will be taken into account and welcome. What we want is forming a team in which all volunteers from different countries leave a positive mark on the project with ideas and improvements, they will see in the future through the social networks that they contributed to the growth of the project.

What you can expect

Volunteers can be sure that the facilities where they spend their days are comfortable and is a quiet environment, which allows them to work during the day and relax or do research at night. Our team is very united, we are a young organization that has grown little by little during the last 5 years, bringing together people who love what they do and contribute ideas, whose main objective is the welfare of the animals in custody. In this project your ideas will always be welcome.

The staff of RAREC speak English and Spanish. In our team we have specialists in rescues, rehabilitation and medical treatments, also environmental education and sustainable devolopment education, they live in RAREC and they will be in charge of designating the tasks and supporting volunteers in all the activities or doubts they may have. The project directors also live in RAREC and we are attentive to all the needs of the volunteers and we will collect all the information they can give us so that their work and findings will be part of the database and protocols of the project. On the other hand volunteers will work with the Education Program leader in charge.

We give to each volunteer RAREC t-shirts, rain cape and rain boots. It is important that they bring comfortable and fresh clothes, sneakers, sandals, hats and also long-sleeved shirts and pants to avoid bugs at night.

Typical day

A typical day for a volunteer begins at 7 am with breakfast.

The first activity in the morning is to go to the school to develop the planned classes.

Five weekly environmental education workshops are developed with different age groups, and daily English classes according to school hours.

On Saturdays, the young people or children chosen as "volunteers for a day" arrive at the rescue center and the topics of the workshop must be supervised and reinforced.

In the afternoon volunteers should prepare the teaching material and the topics for the next class.

In addition, the volunteers of this program can complement their work with the organization of additional extracurricular workshops or activities, such as cleaning a beach with the youth, a sexual education campaign, a medical campaign, sustainable development activities classes, etc.

The schedule is from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., when the volunteers wish, they can take days off for tours, they should only tell us to schedule the tasks in advance.
