About the program

Volunteers will instruct the children in how to play new and different sports that they are can bring from their own country.

The Sport Education program consists of volunteers working in local schools to improve children's knowledge of sports and teaching foreign sports and games to the children. About the program

The Sport Education program consists of volunteers working in local schools to improve children's knowledge of sports and teaching foreign sports and games to the children. They also educate children on general fitness, health and wellbeing in addition to their regular lessons at the school. It is up to the volunteer to plan lessons and design the teaching of their sport program.

Volunteer tasks:

  • Recreational activities (yoga, music, arts, crafts)
  • Assisting teachers in preparing sports classes
  • Teaching students about new sports
  •  Assisting and participating in sports training, competitions and school events
  •  Supervising children during recess and lunch
  •  Building up the self-esteem and confidence of the children

Children are extremely enthusiastic and willing to learn. While soccer is extremely popular in Peru, many volunteers have found it rewarding to teach children different sports (or popular sports from the volunteer's home country). If a volunteer wishes to do this, they must plan ahead and often must bring the required materials and equipment themselves, as it is highly likely they will not be available in local stores and shopping centers here.

Volunteer will be placed in projects including primary or secondary public schools. This is a school for children from 6 to 16 years old from poor neighborhood. They do not get a lot of help from the government, so all support is appreciated. The kids at the schools come from low income families.

Upon arrival in Arequipa, we will be waiting for you at Arequipa’s airport, from where we will go to our host family. We will be given a health & safety and program orientation, and you will have time to rest.

Upon arrival in Arequipa, we will be waiting for you at Arequipa’s airport, from where we will go to our host family. We will be given a health & safety and program orientation, and you will have time to rest.

Monday morning, we will meet and you will be given a briefing about your project. Then we will take the public bus to the project, where you will be introduced to the director and can start working.

Monday to Friday:

7:30 AM - Breakfast with host family
8:00 AM - Volunteer leaves to the project
8:30 AM - Arrival at the project, beginning of Volunteering
1:00 PM - End of project
2:00 PM - 3:00 PM Lunch (free time)
2:00 PM - 5:00 PM Free time
7-7:30PM - Dinner with the host family

**The volunteers on afternoons are free to visit and explore the city, or can chose to take Spanish classes which can be arrange at our office.

Minimum Age: 18 years

In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the program start date. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s) or if your are accompanied by your parents.

Airport Pickup at Rodriguez Ballon International Airport

We pick volunteers up from Arequipa airport and transfer them to their accommodations. Flight information needs to be sent to us prior arrival in Perú.

Accommodation

Volunteers will stay in a homestay where they will live with a local family. Volunteers can expect to share a room with one or two other. We highly recommend staying with a family; that way you will also learn the Peruvian way of life, meet local people, eat typical food, speak the language (Spanish) and engage in local customs and traditions.

Volunteers will be sharing bathroom and common areas with other volunteers and members of the family.

Food & Beverages

2 meals are included (breakfast and dinner). Volunteers can expect to experience a variety of flavors and meals during their experience as Peruvian food is diverse. We will be glad to let the family know if you have special eating needs. Please let us know ahead of time so that we can make arrangements for you.

Flight Tickets

The nearest airport is Rodriguez Ballon International Airport (AQP) in Arequipa. We assist you to find cheap flights to Peru. FIND CHEAP FLIGHTS

Travel Insurance

Details on arrival

Once you arrive in Arequipa, please pick up your bags and then step out of the airport. Our PEVolunteer representative will be waiting for you there with a sign that has your name written on it.

The first day of volunteer’s program (normally Sunday) is upon arrival in Arequipa, Volunteer will be pickup from the airport and then transfer to host family. Here volunteers will have the day to rest and acclimatize.

First day! Your Introduction

Volunteers orientation will begin on Monday at around 9:00 am  and will be conducted by our staff. It will cover everything you need to know for your volunteer placement in the city including an introduction to Peru, Peruvian customs, Spanish classes, rules and expectations, safety, travel opportunities in Peru, and an introduction to your project and placement.

Once our orientation is complete, volunteers will be transported to their projects, usually by public bus, with some exception of some walking distance projects. Upon arrival, Volunteer will be introduced to projects Directors and can start working at the same day.

Final Payment
