About the program

Many people are currently looking for different experiences to have in some moment of their life, be it a trip or a volunteering experience abroad or in their own country. Being a part of this teaching volunteering experience in Ghana is a great opportunity for you to share your talents and knowledge with children and youth, while you can also have a very enriching and memorable experience in rural Africa.

In our current day and age, the development of any nation depends largely on the knowledge its citizens have on technology, information, and communication. That's why, in collaboration with local organisation and the essential help we receive from our volunteers, we strive to achieve our goal: facilitating the access to education to schoolchildren in vulnerable areas in Ghana, which will create better academic and work opportunities for them —in general a significantly better future for them. Our volunteers very often become great sources of inspiration to improve education standards, to treat students better, and to use more effective educational practices. That is why the role of a volunteer within this project is key.

As a volunteer with this project, you shall support students in areas such as computing, math, English, arts, and other subjects. Volunteers will collaborate with local teachers and use their own creativity and initiative to promote the potential, knowledge, and skill development of the children and youth attending the classes.
In local Ghanaian schools, volunteers are usually asked to collaborate with English classes, but volunteers may also prepare and teach classes in other subjects, if they feel confident enough.

It's important that you enjoy spending time with the children. If you know about computing, you could also help out with the basic computing workshops given at these schools.

Volunteers may also help out in planning and scheduling leisure activities, as well as sport, musical, and extracurricular activities. These activities may include things like games, educational role plays, storytelling, painting, and creating  handcrafts.

Typical day

Usually, volunteers work at least four hours a day on weekdays (Monday through Friday). Weekends are free for volunteers to go discover all the beautiful things Ghana has to offer.

Free-time activities

Some of the places we recommend you to visit during your stay in Ghana are:
Kakum National Park: a tropical forest located in the central region of Ghana. It is one of the only three natural places in the country that offers its visitors a tree-top walkway, known as the Kakum Canopy Walkway. Inside you can also find a tree house built in the treetops about 20 meters above the ground that offers visitors an adventurous opportunity to spend the night.
The national park is home to many beautiful animals, many of which are endangered; among these you can find target monkeys, African elephants and more.

Accra: the capital of Ghana and has much to offer art and history lovers as there are many museums, galleries, libraries and monuments to explore. A visit to the National Theatre, the National Museum, Christiansborg Castle, the Jubilee House or the Black Star Square is often recommended.
The most popular beach in town is Labadi Beach. Next to the beach you will also find the Academy of African Music and Arts.

Elmina: The city’s main tourist attractions include Elmina Castle, Fort Coenraads burg, the Dutch Cemetery and the fishing fleet.
On the first Tuesday of every July, the town holds an annual festival called Festival Bakatue which celebrates the sea and the final culture.

Cape Coast: A city and a port, located in the central region that offers its visitors 32 different festivals throughout the year.
There is also the Cape Coast Castle and the Cape Coast National Cultural Centre which visitors can explore.

Kokrobite: A small town very close to the area where our volunteer projects are developed. It is a popular tourist destination for its beautiful beaches and lively nightlife.

Ada Foah: A small coastal town famous for its palm-lined beaches and neighboring islands. Many locals and tourists also take advantage of the water sports activities offered by the city.

About the project

Support in the cooperation and creation of social and environmental projects in communities at risk of social exclusion, through international volunteering.

Meet your organization

ADVENTURE VOLUNTEER is a non-profit organization, established in 2017. We collaborate in the social and environmental field through projects of conservation and protection of the environment and animals, as well as in the social part through projects of empowerment of women, community development, functional diversity, medical or teaching.

Our team of collaborators has a deep experience in international volunteer programs.  We know all the realities of the areas where we are working, collaborating and where we have a presence.

Our projects offer volunteers the opportunity to meet, share and participate in social and environmental projects. These projects demand educational and recreational activities that benefit communities of different cultures and customs, communities with economic difficulties and different degrees of social exclusion.
