This volunteer project takes place on the world-famous Galapagos Islands, one of the most amazing destinations in the world! This project allows you to become a teaching assistant at schools on the Galapagos.

The priority of this educational project is to improve the level of English on the islands, so that they can eventually become less isolated from the mainland. An improved level of English will also enable locals to communicate with tourists, which is essential because tourism is a growing industry within the region. Due to the fact that most schools lack English teachers, volunteers are crucial. Your volunteer work will help many people throughout the region while also giving you the chance to enjoy the beautiful beaches and exotic nature and animals.

There are three different islands you can choose from when participating in this project: San Cristóbal, Santa Cruz, and Isabela Island. Each island has their own local school. Not only will you be helping pupils, but even the teachers will try to improve their own English skills with your help.

Throughout this project, you will witness first-hand how important your help is for the children. The children will see you as a role model, so volunteers should take their work very seriously while working in the schools.

Typical day

You will be working as a assistant teacher in an elementary school. Classes usually take place from 7:30 am to 12:30 pm, which means that you will usually have the afternoons off. The sizes of the school can vary, but there are usually around 100 kids between the ages of 5 -12.

On a typical day, you will assist teachers during classes, help prepare lesson plans, teach the children English, assist with math and computer classes, and play with smaller children during breaks.

Free-time activities

The Galapagos Islands offer many opportunities for cultural activities and escapes into the nature. You have the possibility to observe the Island's endemic wildlife, animals that do not exist somewhere else! You can do many water activities like swimming, snorkeling, kayak, surfing, diving and you can take boat trips to other islands.
