About the program

Our Teach for Change (TFC) program recruits international volunteers to teach English and matches them with one of our 15+ partner schools or English language centers across Vietnam. Through this program, we are able to offer English support to children in both rural and urban areas within Vietnam. With the help of our passionate international volunteers and teachers, we are able to provide fluent English language services to those who otherwise would not have access. In a country where English fluency is rapidly becoming a necessary skill to compete in the national and global job market, providing these classes has become a vital part of increasing gender, ethnic, and general social equality within disadvantaged regions of Vietnam.

Volunteers will work with an innovative team of locals and internationals alike to provide quality English classes to children of all ages and skill levels and to create the funds that allow our Empowerment Plan projects (which support our women beneficiaries) to run. We partner primarily with schools that are women-led and who are unable to afford fluent English teachers, but who still want to give their students a fair chance at learning the language, for a low-cost or even for free. Many of our partner posts are the only center in their nearby area, provide the lowest cost classes compared to other centers, and/or offer scholarships to students most in need.

All of our Volunteer teachers are provided with a Vietnamese-speaking teacher’s assistant in their classes that will help with communication and classroom management. Depending on the post location, varying levels of classroom materials and lesson plans will be provided as well. The specifics of classroom size, class schedules, and amenities are specific to the particular post location that the volunteer is matched with. Our Volunteer Recruitment team works hard in order to place volunteers at a post which most aligns with their needs and preferences. In return for C4C providing accommodation and 2 daily meals, we ask our volunteers to work for a maximum of 18 hours per week. This still allows for free time in which the volunteer may prepare for class, relax, or explore their new country. This is a fantastic opportunity for those seeking to develop their professional teaching skills, embark on a cultural-exchange journey, meet other like-minded people, and work with children.

Services by Catalyst for Change Vietnam

For 4 - 8 weeks of commitment, we charge an average fee to cover a part of the accommodation and meals.

For 12 - 24 weeks commitment, we can transfer you to our sponsored program in which we receive funding from the private or government sector, and thus, volunteers are free from payment. However, we require our volunteers to pay a small register fee of $15 and a refundable deposit of $85, which will be returned to you on the last day of your commitment. Please be aware that the deposit will NOT be returned if you decide to leave your commitment early. C4C is a small nonprofit that operates with limited resources, and this deposit is implemented to help cover the costs incurred when a volunteer leaves their post earlier than agreed upon.

Airport Pickup at Noi Bai International Airport

We can provide pickup from the Airport or help you with transport arrangement to bring you to your host location.

Accommodation

At C4C, our volunteers have the choice of living in either a homestay or a shared volunteer house, depending on the project location. At our homestays, the volunteer will live with our local coordinator's families or with our beneficiary families themselves! Volunteers are fully supported with basic accommodations that will fit your needs. We offer a variety of both shared and private rooms depending on the location. In these homestays, you will have a chance to learn to cook traditional Vietnamese meals, experience Vietnamese home life, learn the language and explore the local areas.

Volunteers who prefer a more private experience can request to live in a Volunteer House, where they will share a fully equipped house with other volunteers. Here, volunteers share rooms or have their own private rooms, in addition to sharing bathrooms, a kitchen, a laundry room, and living rooms. These are only available at specific locations.

Food & Beverages

In addition to accommodation, volunteers are provided with at least 2 meals per day, 5 days per week. The meals are cooked or provided by the local family host and you might be even invited to help with the preparation so that you may learn new recipes :) For weekends, you can take the chance to try Vietnamese cuisine either in the several local eateries, small restaurants, or even street foods around the city/town. Vietnam is well-known for its food diversity with affordable prices, so please feel free to explore.

For volunteers who have dietary restrictions, please inform us and your host in advance!

Meet your organization

Who are we?

Coins for Change Vietnam (C4C) is a social enterprise run by women for the purpose of promoting equal rights and social justice for women and children in Vietnam. Officially established in December 2015, we are a relatively young organization comprised mainly of volunteers who are passionate about supporting marginalized groups of women.

What do we do?

Our goal as an organization is to empower disadvantaged women in Vietnam with the skills and resources to overcome social and economic challenges and to pursue opportunities that would otherwise be impossible.

Our programs serve both urban and rural families through educational and business support. With a focus on serving marginalized women such as low-income women, ethnic minorities, women in rural areas, domestic violence survivors, single mothers, and disabled women, we help remove the obstacles that prevent these disadvantaged groups from achieving success and gender equality within their communities and within Vietnam.

Through our educational and business campaigns, we offer free vocational training, job placement, free and low-cost English classes for women and children, online and offline support groups, mental health awareness, business support, and online lessons. Our campaigns focus on building life skills and providing training that increases independence and fair opportunities.

C4C now offers a wide range of services related to cultural exchange and business within Vietnam, done through our two programs: The Empowerment Plan and Teach for Change.

Our Teach for Change program aims to expand English language education in Vietnam and support women in business. Our Empowerment Plan aids marginalized groups of women through a holistic approach that includes support from an expansive online network, free vocational training, job placement, and free English classes for children.

Where do we work?

Although our management team is headquartered in Hanoi, we have partner locations and beneficiaries all throughout the country. Our CEO, Hong Tang (a single mother herself), is currently based in Da Nang close to the Cơ Tu ethnic minority village that our HerCraft project supports. Our HerAcademy program has established a network of more than 30,000 women across the entirety of Vietnam. Our Teach for Change program has more than 15 partner schools and English language centers located in both rural and urban areas throughout the country. From North to South, countryside to city outskirts, solo adventures to international volunteer communities, the experiences that each of our Teach for Change posts offers are unique.
