About the program

Speaking English in Peru is very important due to the good job opportunities it provides to locals. However, many students cannot afford to study another language, especially children. Therefore, our Teaching English program is very important because it gives those who would not normally be able to study English the chance to learn the language.

Volunteer will be placed in projects including primary or secondary public schools. This is a school for children from 6 to 16 years old from poor neighborhood. The school is close to the city center and attends about 3000 students. They do not get a lot of help from the government, so all support is appreciated. The kids at the schools come from low income families.

Your tasks:

Please note you may be teaching individually or you may be an assistant teacher in an English class that has a large amount of students. Volunteer may be required to help teaching other classes (such as Math or Spanish) to complete their volunteer day.

Volunteer can organize extra activities like:

  • Recreational activities (yoga sports, arts, crafts)
  • Helping children with homework
  • Playing, dancing, painting, and singing with the children
  • Helping with day-to-day tasks at an institution
  • Building up the self-esteem and confidence of the children

Lesson plans are generally not provided to you by the school. PV Travel provides materials, books and lesson ideas to help you with your classes.

Please expect that your Teaching English project may feel disorganized, understaffed and underfunded. It is for these reasons that volunteers are so desperately needed. Also, volunteers may not necessarily teach in front of large classes or in formal classroom settings; teaching can be done in small groups or in a one-on-one format.

**Volunteers must have enthusiasm, creativity and leadership to work with children

Accommodation

Volunteers will stay in a homestay where they will live with a local family. Volunteers can expect to share a room with one or two other. We highly recommend staying with a family; that way you will also learn the Peruvian way of life, meet local people, eat typical food, speak the language (Spanish) and engage in local customs and traditions.

Volunteers will be sharing bathroom and common areas with other volunteers and members of the family.

About the project

Peru Volunteer and Travel is a Peruvian based organization, who really want to make a change. That is why we have created the most affordable, and life-changing programs.

Meet your organization

Peru Volunteer and Travel was founded in 2011, and is a leading organization in volunteer and internship abroad. We have a dedicated, multilingual team available 24/7 to support and care for our volunteers, we strive to set ourselves apart by providing a top-notch client service and great home base facilities.
As a Peruvian based organization, we personally know the reality from all of our projects and we know which volunteer projects really need help from volunteers and we place our volunteers in these places so that you feel needed and satisfied.
During your volunteer placement you will always have support close at hand by our Coordinators.

Whether you will be working in childcare or a medical placement, teaching English, or any other program with us, you will be making a difference in the poor Peruvian reality. You will interact with poor, disabled, and sad children whose faces light up when they see you come to help them. The adults will make you feel welcome and will be extremely thankful for your help. It will be a once in a lifetime experience that you will never forget.

Our principal goal is to be one of the organizations that works with the neediest people in Peru in order to try to change their lives for the better. But, of course, we need the help of our volunteers. That is why we make sure to offer quality, safe, and affordable programs for our volunteers and travelers.
We can maintain low prices and high quality programs because we are the creators of our volunteer programs in Peru. We are the in-country coordinators for many other organizations, our main office is in Peru, and our programs are considered the best ones there are!
