Volunteer with Children in India

We get over 150 volunteers every year to come and work in the volunteer children program in Delhi. There are about 100 million street children in India who do not attend any school and spend most of their time on the streets. In Delhi, the capital city, it is estimated that there are close to 1, 75,000 street children of which 7-10 % are runaways. Volunteers can bring smile on the faces of these disadvantaged children by helping to create an environment conducive for their holistic development in order to enable them become a part of mainstream society.

Volunteer Tasks

Volunteers work at different childcare center in and around New Delhi. They can assist in providing love, care, basic literacy, recreation and most importantly spend time and shower affection on them. It can make a world of difference to their lives. The program consists of taking informal education classes with the children, playing games with the children and introducing them to different new activities.Volunteers work for 5-6 hrs in a day for 5 days in a week. The need for improvisation & creativity in teaching methods is paramount and can challenge the most experienced volunteer, but the rewards are amazing.

Our volunteers can bring along pens, pencils, books and other teaching material which will help them with teaching.

You can expect the best experience with Volunteering India as we have been working with international volunteers since 2006. As a volunteer you would be living and working in south Delhi. Our accommodations and projects are located in safe areas and we have coordinators available on site.

As a  volunteer you would live in our accommodation, everyday after Breakfast - which is usually around 8:30 you would leave for your placement by your choice of transport, i.e bus, metro or auto rickshaw. All placements are around 20 - 40 ...

A Day in the life of a Volunteer in this project 

As a  volunteer you would live in our accommodation, everyday after Breakfast - which is usually around 8:30 you would leave for your placement by your choice of transport, i.e bus, metro or auto rickshaw. All placements are around 20 - 40 minutes away by public transport from our accommodations. You would usually start work around 10:00 am and go on for 4-5 hours depending on the amount of work on a particular day. Lunch can be taken at a nearby restaurant or cafe which would be shown to you during your orientation.

After work you can go around and explore the city or feel free to come back home. After dinner which is in the evening  you are free to go to a nearby market for shopping or hang out with other volunteers to catch your favourite TV show or rent a DVD and enjoy the evening at home. The accommodations also have wi fi Internet which makes communication easy with your friends and family back home or keep the world updated on Facebook or your blog! Enjoy a good night sleep in your air conditioned room (air conditioning is provided only during summer).

Free-time activities

Explore the amazing country India! Volunteers get a chance to visit Agra to see the famous Taj Mahal. They can also go to Jaipur and see the famous pink city. Trips to Dharamshala and Palampur are also possible and you can go for trekking and to visit Dalai Lama's temple.

Minimum Age: 18 years

In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the program start date. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s) or if your are accompanied by your parents.

Your helping hand will be required on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 09:30 - 15:30

  • Pre Departure information - provided before you come to India
  • Airport Pickup - We will provide airport pickup in Delhi for volunteers arriving from 6 am to 10 pm.
  • Orientation - A half day orientation will be provided by our staff.
  • Accommodation - Volunteer accommodations are provided in the volunteers home.
  • Food - Volunteers are served with two meals a day in this project, breakfast and dinner.
  • In-country support - 24 hours support provided by our local staff.

Yes - airport pickup is included in cost from Delhi airport.

Accommodation

Accommodation is provided in one of our 3 volunteers homes in Delhi. The homes are located in safe south Delhi area and provide air conditioning during summers. WiFi internet is also provided and comfortable beds and modern toilets are also provided.

Food & Beverages

Breakfast and Dinner is provided from Monday to Saturday. Indian meals are provided.

The nearest airport is Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) in Delhi. We assist you to find cheap flights to India. FIND CHEAP FLIGHTS
