This is an in-country hands-on internship program with provided shared housing and local team support.
Interns will have the opportunity to observe side-by-side Veterinarians and curators in the Attica Zoological via its Park Service Learning Program and participate in the daily routine providing care to land/marine mammals, reptiles & birds from all over the world. Our team consists of professional zoo keepers, animal curators, educators and veterinarians actively involved in wildlife conservation efforts “in situ” and “ex situ”. The Attica Zoological Park is a proud member of EAZA (European Association of Zoos and Aquaria) and of EAMM (European Association of Marine Mammals) and, as such, conforms to strict guidelines regarding animal husbandry, conservation, education and security. All veterinary staff are bilingual and some of which have completed their veterinary training abroad, eliminating any language barriers and offering international expertise.Eligibility requirement: For
veterinary shadowing at least two years of undergraduate study at a
university’s veterinary school must completed. For pre-vet interns this
internship will be a mix of animal husbandry, animal care and veterinary
shadowing depending on the level of hands on experience and at least 1
year of undergraduate studies completed with a relevant scientific major
such as biology, animal sciences, veterinary sciences etc. Interns must
have a genuine interest in veterinary and commitment to observation of
both surgical and non surgical procedures
Internships start on Mondays (with arrival on a Sunday) and interns have a choice to participate to a program between a minimum of 2 weeks or up to a maximum of 4 weeks .
For this program the
participants need to be physically fit and able to undertake manual
labor, enjoy practical activities, feeding & caring wild animals, work quickly and reliably both as
part of a team and independently, have good oral and written
communication skills, be safety aware.

Typical day
A typical working week runs from Monday to Friday, with each day
beginning at 7:30/8:00am and ending around 4pm/5pm. During this time, you will
take part in the daily routine providing care to land/marine mammals, reptiles & birds from all over the world
Free-time activities
The placement takes place at the vibrant city of Athens where many cultural events and activities take place. You have the chance to explore the historical sites of Athens or swim in the beaches around it. During your weekends you can travel to near by cities, towns or take the ferry to one of the hundreds of picturesque islands.

Requirements
In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the program start date. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s) or if your are accompanied by your parents.
You need to speak English (fluently)

We will review your application and if we accept you on this internship we will ask you to pay a non-refundable deposit to secure your place. The remaining of your internship fees (less your initial deposit payment) will be due no less than 30 days before your internship start date.
The program fee includes a free airport pickup on the Sunday before the
Monday start date. To qualify for the free pickup interns are required
to arrive between 9am-6pm. At the airport interns will be welcomed and
transferred to their housing. For interns arriving at an earlier date, a
pickup maybe provided if requested and subject to availability.
The accommodation is fully furnished (single or double beds), with WiFi, shared with 1-5 other mixed-sex interns. The last night of the accommodation is the Friday night of the final week, leaving interns free to depart on Saturday. Extra nights of accommodation or private apartments can be arranged in advance, if requested and subject to availability.
Good access at the project site
Visa, flights, travel insurance or vaccinations are NOT included in the program fees.
Food, snacks or beverages are at extra costs.
The nearest airport is Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport (ATH) in Athens. We assist you to find cheap flights to Greece.
Going abroad is an adventure and it is always best to be prepared. Sudden illness or injury, cancellation or theft - a travel insurance for Greece provides security and is a plus to have.
If you are intending to volunteer in Greece you should seek medical advice before starting your social journey. Check your required vaccinations for Greece.
