About the program

During your stay, you will be involved with all facets of rescuing, rehabilitation and caring for injured and orphaned wildlife.

All will be learnt in a safe friendly environment to suit your individual abilities.

You will most likely encounter wildlife from the air,  land and sea during your stay.

Wallabies, numerous bird species, Cassowaries,  Echidnas, reptiles, gliders, turtles are among the many species you may encounter.

We are located in one of the oldest rainforests in the world, over 80 million years old.

You never know what you might see.

Being a wildlife advocate,  you will appreciate and experience all that is required in successfully managing our endangered wildlife.

Food preparation, feeding of wildlife, cleaning of enclosures, washing pouches and other husbandry tasks are required.  None of these tasks are difficult.

We are a NON SMOKING environment so definitely no smokers.

We do have a very loving dog living in house so be prepared to be her best friend.

You will have time when required to do your own thing,  we have skydiving,  rafting, reef trips at our doorstep.

Push-bike available and supermarket nearby.

Greyhound bus stop is just around the corner where we will meet you at the Wongaling Beach bus stop.

Oh and did we mention you will be staying  in a bungalow on an acre of tropical paradise with good wifi and swimming pool.

Typical day

Most days we start early, our wildlife in care like their brekky from 7am onwards.

We get everything fed, hopefully before a rescue call. Some animal husbandry, clean enclosures etc. then time for a coffee.

A couple of days of the week we collect recyclable items which have to be sorted also, we get our hands dirty,  but it feeds our wildlife. Our community supports us and it is very rewarding.

Throughout the day wildlife need to be fed at around four hourly intervals so you will have time for a good break before and after lunch, depending on any rescues that eventuate.

Every day can be different, sometimes things run smooth,  other times complete chaos.

We are usually in and out , so you will get to explore our unique paradise with rainforests, beaches, jetties, lookouts, waterholes and much more.

After an afternoon break, if the day goes well, everything needs a feed around dinner time and to be housed for the night.

Food preparation is involved including fruits, insect, fish and meat products.

We do have a very loving  dog, and a non smoking property. There are other guests also staying at the property.

We work hard when necessary and enjoy the quiet moments!

You'll love it!

About the project

Here you will stay in Tropical Paradise. Assisting In rescuing, rehabilitating, and releasing Injured and orphaned wildlife. Where rainforest meets the sea!

Meet your organization

Our organisation was officially established in 2012. We are a small team of volunteers and are looking at expanding our volunteers to include overseas volunteers. We would like to share our unique wildlife with those that wish to share this wonderful and unique experience.

We are fortunate enough to live in one of the oldest rainforests on earth, abundant with wildlife.
Unfortunately as a result of human population increase, our wildlife rescue group is in high demand and we operate a 24/7 rescue service.

Mission Beach is a small peaceful and safe town, situated in far North Queensland between cairns and Townsville.
Right on the doorstep of the great barrier reef. "Where the rainforest meets the sea!"

Our current journey involves the very rewarding task of caring for wildlife in care.
The species that come into care vary greatly, and are not limited to all birdlife, Macropods (wallabies, Pademelons), Echidnas, Marine strandings (Sea turtles, sea snakes, sea birds).

Our task is ongoing, and we do our best to not only rescue and rehabilitate, but to hopefully educate others so our wildlife can exist in harmony.

If you think you are up to the task, please come and join us.

We are unique in that we look after such a wide variety of wildlife species, and you never know what each day what will happen next.

Your exciting and unique learning experience starts here, and this will be something you will cherish forever.
