This is an in-country hands-on internship program with provided shared housing and local team support.

This internship is a unique, hand-on experience that involves activities and duties such as undertaking cleaning and maintenance of enclosures of wild animals (birds, primates, felids etc.) helping with animal health checks, preparing food and feeding of animals in accordance with diet requirements, feeding schedule and instructions, undertaking animal enrichment program, animal behavior observations, attending meetings, seminars and staff training as requested by supervisors. .

This program is important because together we will:

  • Provide medical treatment to exhausted, sick, injured, or very young wild animals rescued by animal conservation organisations.
  • Help with the conservation efforts of endangered species.
  • Rehabilitate animals that are fit for release in their natural habitat.
  • Raise public awareness and educate our fellow citizens and their children through environmental games and presentations.
  • Participate in events that aim to raise public awareness of environmental issues.

The team is made-up by professional zoo keepers, animal curators, educators and veterinarians actively involved in wildlife conservation efforts “in situ” and “ex situ”. The Attica Zoological Park is a proud member of EAZA (European Association of Zoos and Aquaria) and of EAMM (European Association of Marine Mammals) and, as such, conforms to strict guidelines regarding animal husbandry, conservation, education and security. All veterinary staff are bilingual and some of which have completed their veterinary training abroad, eliminating any language barriers and offering international expertise..

Our Zoology internship program offers zoologists & volunteers of any background the opportunity to gain top quality experience interning on the caring for wild animals and learning how such an organization operates. With valuable experience, you’ll develop your skills and understanding of different conservation aspects.

Internships start on Mondays (with arrival on a Sunday) and interns have a choice to participate to a program between a minimum of 4 weeks or up to a maximum of 24 weeks .

For this program the participants need to be physically fit and able to undertake manual labor, enjoy practical activities, feeding & caring wild animals, work quickly and reliably both as part of a team and independently, have good oral and written communication skills, be safety aware.
