This is an in-country hands-on internship program with provided shared housing and local team support.
This internship is a unique, hand-on experience that involves activities and duties such
as undertaking cleaning and maintenance of enclosures of wild animals
(birds, primates, felids etc.) helping with animal health checks,
preparing food and feeding of animals in accordance with diet
requirements, feeding schedule and instructions, undertaking animal
enrichment program, animal behavior observations, attending meetings,
seminars and staff training as requested by supervisors. .

The team is made-up by professional zoo keepers, animal curators, educators and veterinarians actively involved in wildlife conservation efforts “in situ” and “ex situ”. The Attica Zoological Park is a proud member of EAZA (European Association of Zoos and Aquaria) and of EAMM (European Association of Marine Mammals) and, as such, conforms to strict guidelines regarding animal husbandry, conservation, education and security. All veterinary staff are bilingual and some of which have completed their veterinary training abroad, eliminating any language barriers and offering international expertise..
Our Zoology internship program offers zoologists & volunteers of any background the opportunity to gain top quality experience interning on the caring for wild animals and learning how such an organization operates. With valuable experience, you’ll develop your skills and understanding of different conservation aspects.
Internships start on Mondays (with arrival on a Sunday) and interns have a choice to participate to a program between a minimum of 4 weeks or up to a maximum of 24 weeks .
For this program the
participants need to be physically fit and able to undertake manual
labor, enjoy practical activities, feeding & caring wild animals, work quickly and reliably both as
part of a team and independently, have good oral and written
communication skills, be safety aware.
The placement takes place inside the vibrant city of Athens where many cultural events and activities take place. You have the chance to explore the historical sites of Athens or swim in the beaches around it. During your weekends you can travel to near by cities, towns or take the ferry to one of the hundreds of picturesque islands.
We will review your application and if we accept you on this internship we will ask you to pay a non-refundable deposit to secure your place. The remaining of your internship fees (less your initial deposit payment) will be due no less than 30 days before your internship start date.
The accommodation is fully furnished (single or double beds), with WiFi, shared with 1-5 other mixed-sex interns. The last night of the accommodation is the Friday night of the final week, leaving interns free to depart on Saturday. Extra nights of accommodation or private apartments can be arranged in advance, if requested and subject to availability.
The program operates throughout the year

The program fee includes a free airport pickup on the Sunday before the Monday start date. To qualify for the free pickup interns are required to arrive between 9am-6pm.At the airport interns will be welcomed and transferred to their housing. For interns arriving at an earlier date, a pickup maybe provided if requested and subject to availability.
