Sobre el programa

If you are interested in the education sector you could work as assistant teacher at one of our partner schools. You will be able to teach any of the classes and any subject, so it would be good if you could indicate your preference when applying so that you can be allocated to something that interests you most. To become a volunteer teacher you do not need to be a professional teacher and will have no problem teaching if you have just finished secondary school. The children are all very excited and curious. They want to find out more about the volunteer and their home country. By providing them with an overview of life at home, you are expanding their world awareness. In addition, volunteers reaffirm the value of education and motivate the students to concentrate on it. In addition, volunteers are a great assistance to the teachers that often have to teach the students for many different subjects and for the entire day. They can also share their teaching ideas with the teachers and show them how schools are run elsewhere.

Día típico

Wake up around 7.00 am, bath, breakfast. Start work at 8.00 am in assigned institution. Work as your schedule provides. Lunch at around 12 noon at the workplace or a nearby restaurant. Return to work until 3.00 pm.
The number of working hours ranges from 3 to 4 hours per day; (optional) though the schedule is flexible to suit the volunteer. After working hours, the volunteer plans how he/she uses the remainder of the day. The volunteer can help with other community projects, including first aid training, planning health programs , or sports, games with the school children, or just relax and enjoy some free time. At about 6.00 pm supper is served, warm friendship from colleagues at work and town folk to keep you company and show you around and immerse into Ghanaian culture. Ghanaian's are renowned for their friendliness and hospitality.

The volunteer may also wish to spend their free time with other international volunteers in the area.
Weekends are for your free time. We will be more than happy to show you around the local area or visit places such as the beach, the capital city, Cape Coast Castle, National Park etc. You may also wish to travel independently or with other volunteers to different parts of Ghana or other neighbouring countries.

Alojamiento

We have a volunteer house with a shared accommodation in Oboadaka, a small, but lively community in the Akuapem South Municipality. The accommodation is a 10-minute walk away from the Oboadaka waterfalls and has great views of the green surroundings. In addition, the community is made up of lots of friendly people.

Our bedrooms are shared rooms accommodating up to 4 people, equipped with bunk beds each room accommodates volunteers of the same gender. We also have two rooms for two, with a double bed, ideally accommodating a couple. You have the options to come along with a mosquito net or better still purchase one here at a cheap price. We have basic bathroom with running water for shower and toilets usage as well.

We also have a shared kitchen with basic needs for volunteers to use when cooking (e.g. a fridge and stove). Mondays and Thursday are our market days – the market has a variety of fresh food directly from the farm. Volunteers can visit the market themselves or with the help of any team members to get some food items for their cooking on weekly basis.

We work in Ghana to provide impoverished, orphaned and street children with Health Care and Education.
We need volunteers to help with teaching in one of our partner schools (any subject of your preferred choice), helping in local hospitals (i.e. during child delivery in the Maternity Unit), holding HIV/Aids awareness talks etc. These are only a few examples of the things you could be doing here in Ghana and we are willing to accommodate you with any skills you may have. If you have an idea in which area you would like to volunteer you can also let us know and we will see if such an opportunity is available.

I stayed with TANF three years ago, for only six weeks. While I stayed with TANF in the volunteer-flat, I worked as a teacher in a nearby school, teaching math and ICT, and I really loved it! Everyone was really welcoming, I was shown around, not just in class, but in Ghana as a whole. We did trips ...

The 2 months I spent with TANF were the best 2 months of my life. Such an amazing experience. I was lucky enough to be a volunteer teacher to the beautiful children, many of which were sponsored through TANF. The sponsorship allows them to get an education and health care! Laud Kwaku made the ...

I had researched many volunteer programs in Ghana before I decided on this one. It gives volunteers the opportunity to teach any of the subjects taught in its partner schools, so I was able to teach ICT and math, both of which I am very interested in. I loved teaching ICT because most of the ...
