    Sobre el programa

Manna Project International’s Youth Development Program is designed to empower young people in rural communities in Ecuador, focusing on education, life skills, and leadership development. By providing a variety of after-school programs, workshops, and mentorship opportunities, the program aims to create pathways for youth to succeed in their personal, academic, and professional lives.

Here’s an overview of the key components of the program:

    1. English Language Education

One of the core elements of the Youth Development Program is teaching English. Through engaging and interactive lessons, local youth gain proficiency in a second language, which is an essential skill for accessing global opportunities. Volunteers help youth improve both written and spoken English, often working alongside local teachers to ensure effective language acquisition. In addition, native English speakers serve as role models, helping students build confidence and motivation to pursue their educational goals.

    2. Leadership & Life Skills Workshops

In partnership with the local community, the program provides workshops that teach essential life skills such as teamwork, communication, problem-solving, financial literacy, and goal setting. These workshops are designed to develop leadership potential in youth, equipping them with the tools they need to succeed in life. Volunteers work closely with participants, fostering an environment of mentorship, trust, and encouragement.

    3. Mentorship and Community Engagement

Youth development is not just about academic learning—it’s also about building personal connections. Manna Project International’s volunteers form meaningful relationships with students, offering guidance and mentorship. By creating strong bonds, volunteers can help youth navigate challenges, build self-esteem, and develop a sense of purpose. This program also emphasizes community engagement, encouraging youth to give back to their community through volunteer work, leadership roles, and by contributing to community-driven projects.

    4. Cultural Exchange & Global Awareness

The Youth Development Program provides an opportunity for both local youth and international volunteers to engage in cross-cultural learning. Volunteers from different parts of the world share their perspectives, skills, and experiences, helping students understand global issues while also fostering respect for diverse cultures. In return, youth in Ecuador teach volunteers about their local culture, traditions, and values, creating a two-way learning experience that enhances mutual understanding.

    5. Sports and Extracurricular Activities

In addition to the academic and professional components, the program integrates recreational activities such as sports, games, and cultural celebrations to promote teamwork, physical well-being, and social interaction. These activities also offer an outlet for creative expression and stress relief, contributing to overall mental and emotional health.

By engaging young people in meaningful educational experiences, Manna Project International’s Youth Development Program seeks to prepare the next generation of leaders in rural Ecuador for a future filled with opportunities. Through collaboration, mentorship, and hands-on learning, youth can break barriers and pursue their dreams, contributing positively to their communities and the wider world.

At Manna Project International, we believe in making your experience as seamless as possible. Our program fees are all-inclusive, covering everything you need while volunteering abroad—housing, meals, utilities, on-ground transport, airport pick-up and drop-off, 24/7 emergency support, quarterly retreats, homestay experience, professional development training, access to push bikes, and even visa costs. The only things not included? Personal travel, roundtrip airfare, and emergency medical insurance (which typically costs just $30–$50/month). With no surprise expenses, you can focus entirely on making an impact in the community!

Recogida en el aeropuerto Mariscal Sucre International Airport

A taxi is organized from Quito on the Saturday or Sunday before programming starts. It will take the volunteer directly to the MPI house where they will be met by other volunteers and staff with their first meal.

    Alojamiento

    Casa Talag: Your Home Abroad

Casa Talag is a comfortable and communal living space for Manna Project International volunteers, located on the edge of the Talag community—just a 10-minute walk from the center of Shandia. The three-story building offers a welcoming environment, with volunteers occupying the first two floors and an open-air, panoramic rooftop on the third.

The house is equipped with all essentials, including running (cold) water, 2.5 bathrooms (one located outside the home), and four shared bedrooms housing 2-3 volunteers each. Common spaces include a cozy living room with books and a projector, a full kitchen stocked with ingredients, fans, mosquito nets, ample sunlight, and WiFi. For security, all doors—including bedrooms, kitchen, and common areas—have locks, along with two external entry points and an additional lockbox for valuables.

Casa Talag is situated on the property of a local shop owner, providing a unique opportunity to integrate into the community while enjoying a safe and comfortable stay.

Volunteers staying for 3 or more months are encouraged to spend a week with a local host family, mutually decided among the volunteer, MPI, and the family. This is intended to give volunteers the full Kichwa experience and put their Spanish to the test. All homestay costs are included in the program fee.

    Comida y bebida

At Manna, meals are more than just nourishment—they’re an opportunity to build community.

Volunteers receive a budget for household staples, allowing them to cook and share meals together in Casa Talag. In addition, a separate budget is allocated for dining out, including ice creams and group dinners, encouraging deeper connections with the local community.

Once a week, volunteers enjoy a special lunch at the nearby eco-lodge, offering a change of scenery and a chance to experience local cuisine. Since volunteers organize their own meals, dietary preferences and restrictions are easily accommodated, making it a flexible and inclusive dining experience for all.

    Detalles a la llegada

Manna Project International offers start dates throughout the year, with at least one start date per month except for in December. Our onsite team will work with you to find a start date that works for you and our community. Most volunteers will arrive on a Saturday to Ecuador, with a private taxi service bringing them to site on Sunday, where they will have a day to get acclimated before starting work on Monday.

Upon arrival to the Mariscal Sucre International Airport (UIO) in Quito, you will be met at the airport by shuttle to their hotel where you will be staying for the evening. The next morning, volunteers will have breakfast and the hotel and then will be picked up by a private taxi service around 11 am to take you to Shandia, where you'll be staying for the duration of your time with Manna Project International. This drive usually takes about 4-5 hours, with 1 stop in the middle. You may want to consider getting snacks before getting in the taxi.

Taxis from the airport to the hotel, to Shandia, and the hotel are covered by MPI's project costs. Food this first day, outside of breakfast at the hotel, is the responsibility of the volunteer. Dinner will be served upon arrival at the Shandia house the next day.
