By becoming a teacher in this beautiful country, you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in a vibrant culture that dates back thousands of years. From colorful festivals to ancient traditions, Sri Lanka offers a unique blend of experiences that will broaden your horizons and deepen your understanding of the world.

    About the Project
    Education is the bedrock of any thriving society, and Sri Lanka is no exception. Volunteering as an English teacher in rural villages or underprivileged communities can make a world of difference for young minds. You’ll not only share your language skills but also open doors to new opportunities and empower students to reach their full potential. You will be volunteering Monday to Friday spread out between morning and afternoon sessions. Expect to work with age groups from 4 years to 16 years in Sri Lanka Governmental schools and temple schools known for monks community.

    Going beyond mere language lessons, you’ll weave magic into the curriculum. Enliven classrooms with basic numeracy and grammar workshops, spark creativity with engaging activities, and witness the joy of learning blossom on every eager face. Imagine the pride in a child’s eyes as they grasp a new concept, or the confidence that blooms as they communicate in English for the first time. Your dedication becomes a bridge, connecting young Sri Lankans to a world of endless possibilities. 

    Teaching as an English Teacher 

    This position of being an English Teacher offers a chance to experience its rich culture, contribute to education, and engage with diverse students in a multicultural setting. Here's a concise list of the roles and responsibilities of volunteers in Sri Lankan teaching programs:

    Assist in classroom instruction.
    Provide language support and practice.
    Support extracurricular activities.
    Mentor and guide students.
    Assist with special needs education.
    Contribute to resource development.
    Engage with the local community.
    Facilitate cultural exchange.
    Assess and evaluate student progress.
    Promote health and well-being.
    Participate in professional development.
    Maintain flexibility and adaptability.


    Skills and Qualifications:
    Anyone can volunteer to teach English abroad to Buddhist monks and community schools. The only requirements for the program are that you have a decent grasp on the English language, and a desire to make a difference in the lives of your young students.
    Since you will be volunteering in a monastery and local schools with children's, you will need to observe the customs and maintain a high level of respect in this sacred space. No smoking or drinking is allowed, and you are expected to behave as a good role model for the children. dressing is as well  considered important and long sleeve are recommended. 

    Location 
    Galle Sri Lanka is a gem and  probably the best place in Sri Lanka for the beach Lover . A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the historic colonial city is a visual feast of twisting alleyways and crumbling mansions and seaside views. you will have various hiking to surfing , heritage sights visit to bicycling available there . for Beach lover  it is a heaven on earth.

After a second day cultural orientation  you will be starting the teaching project in Galle . You  will spend the time in school by 7:30 a.m. till ...

    Good Karma foundation Team will welcome you in Colombo airport as per your arrival schedules  and drive you the local homes stay for the placement. After a second day cultural orientation  you will be starting the teaching project in Galle . You  will spend the time in school by 7:30 a.m. till 12:30 PM  and you will be assisting the teachers during the lessons and helping to clean the classrooms before and after the classes as well as other daily classroom activities. You may also get the chance to teach older children in the afternoons. 

    This is the roughly daily schedule in the regular teaching days 

    Break fast at homestay at 8:30 am
    Project and teaching from 9:30 am
    Lunch Break at 1:30 pm after Lunch you will teach again for few hours 
    Leave at 4:00 pm from the school project to homestay after 4 pm you will have free time to visit city 
    7 PM dinner and rest of the time prepare for next day teaching or some personal works 
    10 PM bed time 

    Volunteers can work in a government school or  or teaching temple known as a Pirivena as per your choice. You don’t need previous experience or qualifications to join. To make sure you are fully prepared, Your main role as a volunteer teaching English in Sri Lanka is to share your time, knowledge and skills to teach English to the local communities in Galle area , boosting their confidence in conversational English and helping to maximize their potential.  We encourage volunteers to make lessons as engaging and interactive as possible by being creative and proactive when preparing lessons. Use fun educational games like interactive word searches or Hangman, or a bit of class competition in Hot Seat or team quizzes. Games, songs, art, sport and music are all great tools. There are usually resources and syllabus guidance at the Volunteer House so you can plan activities before you go to project.

The fort was built by the Portuguese in the 16th century and later expanded by the Dutch. Visitors can explore the fort’s narrow streets, historic buildings, and stunning views of the sea.

    Relax on the beaches: Galle is home to several beautiful beaches, including Unawatuna, Mirissa, and Hikkaduwa. Visitors can relax on the sandy shores, swim in the crystal-clear waters, and enjoy a variety of water sports such as snorkeling, scuba diving, and surfing.

    Explore the local markets: Galle has a vibrant local market scene, with several markets selling everything from fresh produce to handicrafts. The Galle Fort Market and the Galle Sunday Market are two popular options for visitors.

    Visit the Dutch Reformed Church: This is one of the oldest Protestant churches in Sri Lanka, built by the Dutch in the 18th century. The church features stunning colonial architecture and is a testament to the city’s rich cultural heritage.

    Go on a whale watching tour: The waters around Galle are home to a variety of marine life, including whales and dolphins. Visitors can take a boat tour and spot these majestic creatures in their natural habitat.

    Visit the National Museum: This museum features a collection of artifacts and exhibits from the city’s rich history, including ancient coins, pottery, and artwork.

    Taste the local cuisine: Sri Lankan cuisine is known for its bold flavors and use of fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Visitors can sample a variety of local dishes such as hoppers, kottu, and string hoppers at the city’s many restaurants and street food vendors.
