À propos du programme

Volunteers with Ghana's Public Health program provide invaluable contributions to initiatives dedicated to enhancing education across diverse settings in the Cape Coast Metropolis, including schools, orphanages, communities, and churches. The program's primary focus is to address crucial health-related topics through educational outreach.

This program holds great importance as it directly addresses essential health issues through educational initiatives. By leveraging the collaborative efforts of volunteers, research professionals, health experts, and social workers, the program ensures a well-informed and culturally sensitive approach to tackle the health needs of local communities.

The program confronts a spectrum of social issues, including limited health education access, health disparities rooted in socio-economic factors, and vulnerability in educational settings.

The collaborative effort involves identifying and tailoring health topics in a way that is pertinent to target groups within the Metropolis. This ensures that interventions are culturally sensitive and directly address the health needs of local communities. The program comprehensively covers health topics such as personal hygiene, cholera prevention, malaria awareness, STIs, environmental sanitation practices, child rights protection and promotion, and adolescent reproductive health.

Volunteers play a crucial role in the implementation of the program. They actively engage in developing and delivering educational programs, bringing their passion and dedication to empower communities with knowledge and skills for better health outcomes.

Volunteers are expected to bring their commitment, open-mindedness, and a willingness to actively participate in the collaborative process. No special equipment is required, but an eagerness to learn, share experiences, and adapt to the cultural context is highly valued.

Volunteers can expect a meaningful and immersive experience where they contribute to positive change. They will work closely with professionals and experts, gaining insights into the complexities of public health issues and the intricacies of community-based interventions. The program ensures that volunteers receive adequate support, guidance, and a platform to make a tangible impact.

Volunteers do not need to bring any special equipment. The program provides the necessary resources for educational outreach activities. What is essential is a compassionate spirit, a desire to make a difference, and an openness to embrace the unique cultural context of the Cape Coast Metropolis.

Journée typique

Volunteers participating in the Public Health program experience dynamic and fulfilling days, actively engaging with communities and delivering impactful health education within the Cape Coast Metropolis. A typical day is designed to be immersive, educational, and collaborative, allowing volunteers to make a meaningful contribution to the well-being of the local population.
The day typically begins at 8am with a briefing session where volunteers and supervisors gather to discuss the day's activities and review the scheduled health topics. This is an opportunity for collaboration, sharing insights, and aligning strategies to ensure that the educational outreach is tailored to the specific needs of the communities.
Volunteers, accompanied by local coordinators health professionals or social workers, head to designated locations such as schools, orphanages, communities, or churches. Sessions often commence with interactive discussions, presentations, and activities related to the selected health topics. Volunteers may focus on personal hygiene practices, preventive measures for diseases like cholera and malaria, or the promotion of child rights and adolescent reproductive health.
The afternoon starting from 12 noon is dedicated to hands-on activities, workshops, or practical demonstrations that reinforce the theoretical knowledge shared earlier. Depending on the topic, volunteers may conduct community clean-up initiatives, distribute informational materials, or organize health screenings to enhance the practical understanding of the subject matter.
As the day winds down around 2pm, volunteers regroup to debrief on their experiences, discuss challenges encountered, and share successes. This reflection period is essential for continuous improvement and ensures that future sessions are even more effective.
Evenings often provide opportunities for cultural exchange, allowing volunteers to participate in community events, explore local traditions, or engage in additional activities that contribute to the overall integration into the community.

What we do?

We take the needs of the community, led by community members, to create programs that fill the gaps needed in Orphanages, Hospitals, Schools, and Social Welfare offices in the Cape Coast region. We allow our volunteers to bring their knowledge and skills to begin to assist community leads in each project, from there, the volunteer's own skillset is expanded through cultural exchange. The injection of new knowledge and passion allows for the community leads and volunteers to work together to ensure a sustainable project that provides benefits a lot longer than a single volunteer stay.

Where we work?

We work in the Cape Coast Region of Ghana. Ghana, and especially Cape Coast is extremely safe and welcoming to foreigners. Ghanian culture is extremely welcoming to guests. We are also blessed to be based in one of the most picturesque regions of Ghana, directly on the Gulf of Guinea. Bursting with History, Cape Coast also home to the Cape Coast Castle and other historic monuments central to the story of Ghana.

Some vaccines are required, we suggest a consultation with a travel doctor pre-departure.

Our Vision

Our Vision is to be guided and led by local needs and leaders in order to create a happier, superior Cape Coast Region, improving the community how those who live in the community see fit.

Our Goals

Our goals are constantly changing as we are inspired by those in our community and our volunteers spending time in our programs. The grass-roots nature of all of our programs makes the individual of the goals to the program. The overarching goal is clear, to lift those in our community desiring to make change up using the skills and abilities of our volunteers for sustainable change. The goal of our orphanage program is to make the daily lives of orphans in our community smoother so they can learn, play and develop. At the hospital, we have the goal of improving our local health care system through injecting knowledge and passion into existing gaps. In our schools, we have the goal of giving teachers a boost to improve their ability to educate our youth.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for passionate people who want to make a difference and know that their difference is sustainable and what the community actually needs. Volunteers who are looking to develop their skills through a process of cultural exchange, while bringing their own specialized skill set to the table.

Why Us?

We not only provide our volunteers with a stressfree experience by ensuring our volunteers have a safe place to stay at our lodging house, as well have the meals and transport that they need. We also provide the unique opportunity to live and travel culturally like a Ghanian with our experienced travel guides on staff to guide volunteers every step of the way. We also ensure that our programs are lead by those who benefit from them and will continue to drive positive results, the community.
