Combine your passion for animals and desire to give back to society by improving the unfortunate situation of abandoned street animals in Zanzibar. During this volunteering program, you can help to look for a new safe and beautiful home for stray dogs.
The program aims to improve the situation of animals who are homeless. Due to the amount of work that it takes to keep the program running, the help provided by volunteers is always greatly appreciated. Animals are only mediated when a family has the correct surrounding for a dog.
Before starting your volunteer work project, you will receive an orientation by our local staff. The local stuff is run by English speaking people. They are very happy to welcome volunteers from all over the world. Usually, you will be in the program with other volunteers. The project can be reached with a 20-minute walk at the beach or with a local transportation in 10 minutes.
As the dog shelter is going to move in July/ August to a different place, the journey to the project is a little bit longer then.
You will help from 8 am till 2 pm or you can do the afternoon shift. Your schedule is flexible, depending on the volunteer. Like this, you will have time to enjoy your afternoon at the beach.
This program allows you to rescue and work with abandoned dogs while helping them to find a new home. Daily tasks may include:
Besides your time on the project you are able to spend your free-time. You can enjoy activities like swimming, diving, horseback riding, relaxing on the beach etc. Zanzibar offers many opportunities for surfing, especially for kite-surfing.
At the beach there are many spots for tours on a boat (for example delphin tours) but also spots for exploring the island by itself.
You can start the project very flexible, each Monday. Arriving day is Sunday or on an individual day in arrangement. You will get an pick-up at the airport in Zanzibar. It takes 1 1/2 hour to get to the accommodation from the airport.
