    About the Project
Digital skills are essential for education, employment, and innovation, yet many students especially girls in underserved communities in Ghana have limited access to quality ICT education.

The ICT Lessons for Students program was created to help bridge this digital divide by equipping young learners especially girls with practical computer skills, digital confidence, and exposure to technology that can shape their future opportunities.

As a volunteer, you will support local schools, communities and students by delivering structured ICT lessons and sharing practical digital knowledge in a supportive learning environment.

This is a meaningful skills-based volunteering experience designed for individuals who want to create real impact while applying their professional or academic knowledge.

    Your Role as a Volunteer
Volunteers support ICT learning through guided, structured activities. Depending on your skills and confidence level, you may:

    * Teach basic computer skills (typing, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
    * Introduce internet use, online safety, and digital literacy
    * Support beginner coding lessons or technology activities
    * Assist local teachers during ICT classes
    * Help students build confidence using computers
    * Create simple learning materials or practical exercises
    * Encourage problem-solving and critical thinking through technology

No advanced teaching experience is required, but motivation, patience, and willingness to engage students are essential.

    Impact & Purpose
Many students have minimal exposure to digital tools outside the classroom. Your contribution helps students:
    * Gain practical digital skills for the modern world
    * Improve academic performance and confidence
    * Explore future career paths in technology
    * Develop creativity and independent learning skills

By sharing your knowledge, you contribute to sustainable education development and help prepare students for a technology-driven future.

Who This Program Is Suitable For

    * Anyone passionate about digital empowerment through education.

    Who will Volunteers work with.

    Volunteers work alongside:

    • Local ICT teachers
    • School administrators
    • Primary and junior high school students
    • The SFLIG local coordination team

Volunteers do not replace local teachers. Instead, they support and collaborate with them to strengthen digital learning capacity.

    What we expect from Volunteers.

    We expect volunteers to:

    • Be punctual and professional.
    • Respect local culture and school guidelines.
    • Show initiative and patience when working with students.
    • Be willing to collaborate with local teachers.
    • Have basic digital knowledge (ICT or computer skills).

Previous teaching experience is helpful but not mandatory.

    • Pre-departure support and guidance.
    • Orientation and safety briefing.
    • Structured placement and supervision.

    What Volunteers can bring.

    Volunteers are encouraged to bring:

    • A personal laptop/tablet (if available)
    • Teaching materials or simple digital resources (optional)
    • USB drive for sharing materials

Basic equipment is available at schools, but bringing a laptop is recommended.

    Program Availability & Start Dates

    Our program is available year-round.

We welcome volunteers throughout the entire year, and there are no fixed seasonal start dates. Volunteers may apply and begin their placement at any time of the month, subject to confirmation and availability.

To ensure smooth coordination, we recommend confirming your arrival date at least two weeks in advance.

For orientation purposes, we strongly recommend arriving on a weekend (Saturday or Sunday), so that placement activities can begin on the following Monday.

This flexible structure allows volunteers to plan their travel according to their personal schedules while ensuring proper preparation and support upon arrival.

How  do I get to my placement location

On the first day of placement, a member of the SFLIG Volunteers team will accompany you to the school to ensure a smooth and confident start.

    Our staff will clearly explain:

    * The route to take.

    * The appropriate transportation option.

    * Estimated travel time.

    * The typical transportation cost.

If needed, this guidance can be repeated during the first few days until you feel fully comfortable traveling independently.

We also provide guidance on returning safely to your accommodation after each school day.

Our goal is to ensure that every volunteer feels confident, secure, and well-oriented in the local transportation system.

    Cultural Experience

Beyond the classroom, volunteers experience everyday life in Ghana, engage with local communities, and gain meaningful cross-cultural understanding.
This combination of professional contribution and cultural immersion makes the experience both impactful and personally rewarding.

    What Makes This Program Unique
Unlike short-term volunteer tourism projects, this program focuses on skills transfer and long-term impact. Volunteers work alongside local teachers to support structured learning and sustainable digital education.
Your contribution goes beyond teaching — you are helping students build futures.

We aim to create a supportive and flexible environment where volunteers can contribute effectively while developing at their own pace.

Our coordinators work closely with each volunteer to ensure the experience is meaningful, manageable, and aligned with both program goals and individual ability.

Volunteers have free time during evenings and weekends to relax, explore, and experience the rich culture of Ghana.
During your free time, you can enjoy local markets, try authentic Ghanaian cuisine, and connect with the local community. Many volunteers enjoy walking around the neighborhood, learning about local traditions, and engaging with people beyond the classroom environment.
Weekends provide opportunities for cultural and recreational activities, including visiting historical sites, beaches, nature reserves, and nearby towns. Volunteers often travel together, making the experience both enjoyable and socially enriching.
For those who prefer quieter activities, free time can also be used for reading, lesson preparation, journaling, or personal reflection.
The program encourages a healthy balance between meaningful volunteer work and cultural immersion, giving volunteers the chance to grow both personally and professionally while experiencing everyday life in Ghana.

Transfert de l'aéroport Kotoka International Airport

    Our program is available year-round.

Volunteers can start the program throughout the year. However, we recommend arriving on a weekend (Saturday or Sunday) to allow time for orientation before placement begins on Monday.

We request volunteers to confirm their arrival date at least two weeks in advance.

Airport pickup from Kotoka International Airport in Accra is included in the program fee.

After arrival, volunteers receive an orientation covering safety, cultural expectations, program structure, and local transportation.

Volunteers are requested to send a full picture of themselves at the airport  during departure, to make easy identification and our local representative who will pick the volunteer also send the volunteer a picture of him/herself at the airport. This is to help make the pick up process easy. There is a free wifi at the airport for communication when volunteer arrives. Volunteers are advice to connect to the wifi and communicate with the rep doing the pickup, this also helps the volunteer to go through immigration process easily

    Logement

Volunteers will stay either at the SFLIG Volunteers House or with a host family arranged by SFLIG Volunteers. This option is safe and allows volunteers to adjust, adapt, and immerse themselves in Ghanaian culture and the local community where they will be doing their volunteer work. The selection of a host family will depend on the information provided in the application form that the volunteer submits.

These host families have been thoroughly vetted and have good records and health. Regular checks are conducted to ensure that they continue to meet our standards. Accommodation costs are included in the program fee. For groups of six or more interns working on the same or similar projects, accommodations in hostels and dormitories can often be arranged. Each volunteer will have their own  bed, along with essential furnishings like a table and chair, will be provided. Volunteers will have access to amenities such as a TV, radio, electricity, kitchen, toilet and bath facilities, and clean water.

The SFLIG Volunteer House and our projects are located in Krispo City, Kasoa, which is about a one-hour drive from the airport and approximately 45 minutes from central Accra and the business district.

    Aliments & Boissons

Host families are responsible for providing breakfast and dinner everyday. Due to the distance between project area and home lunch can’t be provided and volunteers are advice to go with a snack. The foods served mainly consist of continental dishes comprising rice, chicken, beef, tea, coffee, bread, eggs, soup, potato, oaths, fruits, fish, etc. Local food

That is mainly made from the above, tubers, beans and/or maize is served alongside. It is also very common for an intern to find a familiar dish in restaurants in different cities. Volunteers are provided with well treated water which is purchased from certified producers of hygienically bottled or bagged water.

Volunteers with special dietary needs like vegetarian should let us know, so we can prepare their preferred meal. Those with allergies should let us know too.

During weekends volunteers make their own special foods or eat in a nearby restaurant or order for any continental food to be delivered to them
