The national park is located on the Southern end of the Nicoya Peninsula, one of the highlights in Costa Rica for wildlife watching. It is composed of densely covered mountains and rich marine ecosystems on the coasts. The national park is an almost unexplored biological area and has great importance to the ecosystem. There are a wide variety of tourist and educational attractions, as well as research opportunities.
This program can as well be for students who like to make an internship in Costa Rica. Some of the opportunities to research are:
- Cabo Blanco beach and Island,
- Marine coastal landscape,
- Flora and Fauna
- Forest coastal landscape and natural regeneration
During your time at the national park, you will stay at the volunteer house. In the mornings you have a nice view of the ocean. Costa Rican culture is very relaxed learn more about the Pura Vida lifestyle.
Usually, volunteers work 5-days a week. Working days are chosen by the park in coordination with the volunteer before arriving.
Working hours between 4-6 hours a day.
Tasks:
- cleaning and improving the infrastructure of trails, bridges, the biological station, and the parking lot
- maintenance of facilities and green areas
- beach cleanup campaigns
- research cooperation
- occasional reforestation work
- environmental education in schools
- collection and separation of wastes
- attention, guidance, and control of visitors
- surveys implementation
- monitoring and surveillance in projects
- computational work
- development of education and outreach materials
During your free time, you can go to the beach. You can enjoy
activities like hiking, climbing, trekking, relaxing
on the beach, etc. Costa Rica does have great surf spots. Water sport
activities you can do on weekends.
On your free days, you can visit cities around and visit relaxed communities.
