    Over het programma

The living conditions of many families in Guatemala are incomparable to those you know from industrialized countries. The poverty rate is very high and many families have difficulties to educate and feed their children. Many children have to work from young age on to support the family's income. As a volunteer you can do a lot with little effort here.

In this project, you'll be helping out at a daycare center in Antigua that looks after around 40 to 50 children aged between 0 and 6 years. Daycare is especially important for single parents and market vendors who have to work all day to afford the bare necessities. So that the children do not stay home alone or are left unattended on the markets, they find a safe and loving place at the daycare.

As in many places in Guatemala, there is a shortage of daycare facilities to provide the necessary nursing staff. The support of volunteers is therefore particularly welcome. As well as caring for infants and children, as a volunteer you will make sure that the children feel safe and secure and keep them happy with playful activities. Give a smile on the faces of Guatemala's future generation!

At the daycare center in Antigua, you will help local nurses with day-to-day childcare responsibilities. You help with caring for children and babies aged 0 to 6 years. These include tasks such as feeding and wrapping the little ones, supervision and entertainment of children, educating the children, playing with the children and so on. To make the day-to-day more diverse, help organizing sports and leisure activities, create games, sing, paint and dance with children. To further develop the cognitive and motor skills of the little ones, you will also do activities of educational value.

Your working hours are usually from approx.  8 am to 12:30 pm (may change!). The afternoons can be used to prepare games for the following day, supervise some of the children in the afternoons, or to discover the historic sights of Antigua.

Note: The tasks may vary. They depend on factors such as number of volunteers, season, current needs of the project, as well as self-motivation. Not every volunteer may be fully involved in all these tasks.
