Free-time activities are not limited to the above. There are so many activities to undertake, it is a matter of interest.
Malindi being a coastal town attracts tourists from all over the world who enjoy water sports along the sea. Therefore, the beaches are easily accessible and offer a variety of activities from fishing, visits to marine park & snorkeling, water sports to swimming and sunbathing. There are also specialized activities such as scuba diving which are costly and it is thus advisable to also refer to the Coordinator whenever the volunteer wants to do such sports in order to access them at a good price.
For nature lovers, the volunteers can also visit the Mambrui Sun dunes to marvel at the beauty of nature, the pristine Marafa Hells Kitchen a canyon to catch the most beautiful sunset in tranquility in the afternoon, or a trek at Arabuko Sokoke for bird watching nature trail with different species of birds, small animals and fresh air. And by luck, elephantsin the morning!! Or Mida's creek for the beautiful sunset reflected in the waters of Indian ocean and dine at Shark Crab in the most eco-friendly restaurant surrounded by Indian Ocean Waters and Mangrove. It is breathtaking....these are just but a few.
For historical lovers, they can visit the Gede Ruins or take a trip to Mombasa to Fort Jesus and Old town. This is done over the weekend.
The volunteers also get to experience the life of the community by joining families for 2 days in the village to live their lives without the comfort of electricity and running water enabling them to understand the children and the general community better through bonding.
We help the volunteers to organize safaris to Tsavo National Park or Masai Mara Reserve on request.
