    Assist adults with severe cognitive disabilities by supporting their daily life, accompanying them to workshops and outdoor therapy with horses and encouraging their autonomy.


    This international internship offers students and recent graduates the chance to gain hands-on experience working closely with adults with severe disabilities, supporting their daily activities and workshops. Part of this program is a project powered by the municipality of Rome that promotes activities for people with severe disabilities without adequate family support. The service accompanies people on a path to a more autonomous and independent life, especially when parents or family members can no longer take care of them. The goal is to allow them to continue living in an environment as similar as possible to their home and in respect of their needs and desires.

    You will also accompany the adults with disabilities to outdoor therapy with horses, which supports socialization and psychophysical well-being. In collaboration with qualified operators, educators, therapists and experts in the field, each person forms their own relationship with the horses.

    Your tasks will be adapted to your participation dates and the real-time needs of our partner NGOs, ensuring a meaningful, immersive experience with a positive impact.

    Daily tasks include

    Interns will engage in a variety of tasks designed to provide a comprehensive experience and contribute to the success of the project.

    Daily tasks include

    • Observation, support and assistance of daily activities for adults with disabilities
    • Support of the workshops
    • Help taking care of the horses
    • Help with the preparation of small meals
    • Assistance with therapy
    You will work an average of 5h/day for 3 to 5 days a week, working from 10-14 on some days and 10-16 or 18-23 on others. Your schedule will be agreed upon with your coordinator upon arrival. Our goal is to find a fixed schedule that doesn’t vary on a weekly basis.


    Mealtimes

    6:30 am – 10:30 am. | Breakfast: Enjoy a typical Italian breakfast with cornetto and cappuccino.

    12 pm – 2 pm | Lunch: You can ask to get your lunch to go, make sure you inform your coordinator 24hrs before (not the night before)

    7 pm – 10 pm | Dinner: Enjoy pizza, pasta and other italian specialties in the affiliated restaurant.

    We want you to really get to know your natural and cultural surroundings and will provide you with useful tips and tricks that will help you discover the location of your stay like a local!

    Your shifts will generally last between 3 and 5 hours per day and will take place either in the morning, in the afternoon or in the evening, which will leave you with plenty of free time to go explore, take a stroll around your surroundings, catch the most important sites, interact with the locals or simply go and relax! And of course, you will have your weekends off as well!

    Um an diesem Programm teilzunehmen, musst du zu Programmbeginn mindestens 18 Jahre alt sein. Es kann Ausnahmen geben, wenn du die Erlaubnis deines/r Erziehungsberechtigten vorlegen kannst oder wenn du von deinen Eltern begleitet wirst

    Sprachkenntnisse

    Du brauchst folgende Sprachkenntnisse: Englisch (Fließend)

    Ausbildung

    Psychology, Social sciences, Sociology, Psychiatry and similar auf University Niveau

    What’s included?

    • Pick up at one of the two international airports & transfer to the accommodation - on Sunday

    If you arrive prior to Sunday, you will still be able to receive an airport pickup and our team can transport you to the accommodation, but you will need to pay an extra fee for this service.

    Unterkunft

    Volunteers are accommodated in a hostel in the very city center, 15min walking to the main station in Rome, Termini. You can expect to share the dorm with up to three more volunteers of the same gender. Every room has its own bathroom; also you can find common toilets around the hostel. Bedding and towels are provided, and there are shared western bathrooms. Staff will clean the accommodation throughout the week, however volunteers are required to keep their room tidy. 

    The hostel offers a common kitchen on the third floor to warm or prepare some food (not big meals). 

    Wi-Fi covers the entire structure

    The closest pharmacy is 5mins walking distance to the hostel.

    Life hack: every first Sunday of the month museums are free (there are some exceptions so please check on the official website of the exposition/museum you want to visit before showing up). 

    Verpflegung

    We provide 3 meals a day.

    Meals happen outside of the structure. Three mins walking from the hostel there is the affiliated bar where volunteers are guaranteed cornetto and cappuccino from 6.30am to 10.30am. Lunch and Dinner happens 10 mins walking from the hostel in the affiliated restaurant from 12pm to 2pm, and 7pm to 10pm. The restaurant is closed on Sunday. On Sundays dinner can be provided in the same bar as the breakfast. 

    For both, you always have available more than one option, as well as vegetarian/vegan dishes. 

    Tap water is drinkable in Rome  (unless it is specified it is non-drinkable water) and in the accommodation where you can refill your reusable bottle. 

    Do you have any Food Restrictions? If you have any diet restrictions or special diet, please let us know as soon as possible so we can be prepared to provide appropriate meals for you.
