Travel to Australia and participate in the preservation of plants and Koala monitoring at the Kangaroo Island Wildlife Sanctuary, Kangaroo Island. The sanctuary monitors animals such as Koalas, Kangaroos, Tammar, Wallabies, Possums and Echidnas among other wildlife. Whether it’s helping out in the preservation of animals and plants in the sanctuary or having easy access to visit the Flinders Chase National Park and the Great Southern Ocean on your days off, this experience will definitely change the way you look at life. Act as a wildlife guide on their newly National Geographic featured nocturnal walk where you will help to locate animals. What’s better than enjoying the breathtaking view of millions of stars that light up the night and sleeping in a comfortable accommodation in a beautiful wilderness setting? Be inspired by the hundreds of animals and birds that you will encounter on a daily basis and don’t miss the chance to be part of an unforgettable volunteer experience!
As a volunteer at the project you become part of the team and help in the day to day operations at the Hudson Bay Wildlife Sanctuary. They are involved with the conservation of the native species of animals and plants that are found in the protected area. You will be surrounded by many species of animals that are all totally. Just keep in mind that that it is unlikely that you will hold or work direclty withany animals but you will be up close and surrounded by hundreds if not thousands of animals. You will have some of the following responsibilities:
o Preserve local plant life for 3 days.
o Monitor Koala's and other local wildlife.
o Maintaining the upkeep of the paths and fences.
o Help in identifying and cataloguing native trees.
o Take out weeds to clear the paths.
o Planting shrubs and trees
o Collecting, propagating and dispersing seeds.
o Assist with tourists and help with guided tours.
o Having a great time!
You will find plenty of sightseeing opportunities and interesting places to visit within easy reach of your accommodation at Kangaroo Island Wildlife Sanctuary. Much of the western end of Kangaroo Island is covered in parks and reserves and it is often referred to as the natural end of the Island. You will find large areas of pristine natural bushland, numerous native wildlife, spectacular, rugged coastal cliffs and beautiful seascapes and beaches. That being said, there are many things the volunteers can get involved in during their free time!

Shared room in a bunkhouse on a nearby camping ground (1 km walk and maximum of 4 persons per room).

Meals not included but you have acces to a kitchen.
o Hostel
You will stay for 1 night at a hostel in Adelaide the day before you will travel to Kangaroo island either by Ferry or flight.

If there are any problems with your volunteer project we are always there to help you and mediate between yourself and the organization.

Through FRONTEERING you have the possibility to book tours in Australia after you have finished your volunteer project.

You will be staying at a
bunkhouse at a camping ground nearby the project (1 KM walk). You will share a
room with three other volunteers of your gender. There are private shower
stalls. The accommodation is surrounded by hundreds of native animals. You will
also have access to a full kitchen.
Arrival any day of the week. Keep in mind that for day 1 you are supposed to arrive in Adelaide where you will stay in a hostel for night (included). Then the next day you will fly or take the ferry to Kangaroo Island (not included) and go to your accommodation. Then on day 3 you will go the project to start volunteering (3 days preservation of flora and getting rid of weeds and 2 days monitoring of Koala's).
