Project Details

A Cultural Exchange Centre in the Heart of the Ecuadorian Andes.

El Terreno (‘The Land’) is nestled in the heart of the Ecuadorian Andes, surrounded by beautiful valleys, warm people and indegenous cultures. We are in the process of building a vibrant cultural exchange centre that brings foreigners and local people together to make a more meaningful and prosperous world. We are Joshua (England) and Karina (Quito, Ecuador), a couple with a strong passion for positive change and years of experience in social development, volunteer coordination and sustainable tourism.

We’re in the early stages - buying the land in March 2021 - but we have big ambitions! We aspire to regenerate local ecosystems, build pride in indigenous culture, provide dignified employment opportunities, offer a wide variety of unique eco & community tourism experiences, and ensure volunteers like you learn valuable skills, meet extraordinary people and leave with unforgettable memories.

Social Impact

From July 2021 - March 2022 we have had 38 volunteers who delivered almost 100 hours of workshops to the local community in everything including English, art, cooking and first aid. We have also run several community events and offer a monthly community café as a way of building stronger relationships with community members and finding out their needs.
