In mid-2019 we opened the You4Ghana-Youth-Center. Since there are hardly any leisure activities in the area, we offer various activities for children of all ages on our facility. There is also the possibility of organizing events such as summer festivals or football tournaments. Mac Ten, the director of the youth center, will help you with the implementation. We have a large outdoor area and a nicely furnished common room. There is a volleyball net and a soccer field nearby. In addition, the activities should be used to locate needy or gifted children and to support or encourage them if necessary. Since the Youth Center is still brand new, we look forward to every helper who wants to help set up the project and contribute their own ideas. Come visit us in Ghana! We are waiting for you and your creativity!
There won't be a typical day while working at the Youth-Center. After breakfast (6 a.m. - 8 a.m.) you go to your school where you support the teacher with all tasks during the school day (9 a.m. - 2 p.m.). This includes teaching, checking homework and giving private tutoring. During lunch break (12 p.m. - 1 p.m.) you can come back to the Volunteer-House to eat or you stay at school. After school the volunteers are free to do what they like. There are plenty of hiking trails, a swimming pool, bars and other interesting locations close to our Volunteer-House. Dinner is served at 6 p.m.
Our accommodations are located in the beautiful village of Obomeng. It is part of the Kwahu Highlands in the Eastern part of the country. Since its location is high above sea level, it offers a very pleasant climate for Europeans. During your stay you will be staying either in our volunteer house or with a host family. The Kwahu Highlands offer plenty of opportunities for day trips. At nearby Lake Volta you can take a boat trip or go swimming. Diverse hiking trails to the peaks of the mountains offer wonderful views over the valleys and the Ghanaian jungle. At the markets in the larger villages, many exciting things can be purchased, and during the rainy season, the numerous waterfalls offer an alternative shower. At Easter, people from all over Ghana come to Kwahu to celebrate the biggest festival of the country. Nothing compares to this crazy event! Anyone planning on coming to Ghana around this time should not miss the Easter celebration.
