Volunteers shall work on weekdays (Monday through Friday). On weekends, volunteers are free to go discover everything the Dominican Republic has to offer them.
Volunteers must work at least six hours a day. Volunteers usually work in two shifts: one in the morning, from 8:00 to 12:00; and one in the afternoon, from 14:00 to 17:00.
A warm tropical paradise located in the heart of the Caribbean, the Dominican Republic has countless beautiful places available for you to discover.
The Samana area, where you will be volunteering, is famous for its large number of coconut trees. There are many beautiful white sand beaches, such as Cayo Levantado or Cayo de Arena, that you can visit during your stay in the Dominican Republic. Samana is also known for being a whale sanctuary, so at many times of the year you will be able to see many of these impressive animals.
On the north coast of the Samana region, there is a charming little town called Las Terrenas, a small town surrounded by the beautiful beaches of Playa Bonita and Playa Coson which is the perfect place for kite surfing.
We also recommend volunteers to visit Salto el Limon, a beautiful waterfall of more than 50 meters high located about 20 km from Samana. To get to the falls, you can hire a local guide (generally costs between 100 and 500 pesos per person, although it is negotiable), who will take you through the rainforest either walking or riding on horseback. It is a scenic and memorable overall experience not to be missed!
There is also Los Haitises National Park, dotted with mangroves, streams, humid subtropical forests, seagrass meadows, pirate hideouts and pristine cays, a perfect place for bird watching.
Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic, is also an excellent place to visit; there is a wealth of historical monuments, museums, a lively nightlife and art galleries through which you can experience the unique culture of the Dominican Republic.
