Experience ranching in & around the Roraima state of Brazil; in wide open space, quietness, Freedom, with no big city lights, horses, cattle and other animals!
This volunteer program is especially suitable for:
Do you like wide open space and country life? Would you like to experience this the Brazilian way? Then Brazil Ranch exchange program is for you!
The ranchers of Roraima's Savannahs have had and increasingly tough time to upkeep their life style. For centuries they have been ranchers in this wild land and very little has changed and most of their daily work is still by hand and by horse. Our program focuses to be a cultural exchange and experience program to benefit the local ranchers as well as being a great experience for our volunteers.
Experience ranching in around the Roraima state in wide open space, quietness, Freedom, with no big city lights, horses, cattle and other animals. Ranchers and farmers are looking for volunteers who are willing to experience this way of life and at the same time learn about their rich culture through their family. Brazil is known for football, its music, beers, food and people.
You will be living out of town on the ranch with the family and be involved in all activities, this can be from going to the city to shop, to attending local fairs or rodeos. Your job is to helping take care of their animals while learning a few skills. Horse riding, cattle round up and gardening are three of the most common activities you will be involve in. Others will come along while on the ranch. Its is an experience and a half because you will learn Portuguese, you will learn about ranching and farming in generally and you will have a new family in Brazil.
Even though having a basic understanding of Portuguese would help most ranchers in this area also have a basic understanding of English due to their proximity to Guyana. Some horseman experience required (though you do not need to be an advanced rider at all). In general we expect you to have a good outlook on life, be open minded and flexible.
As volunteers at the ranch you will have some of the following responsibilities:
- Feeding and Grooming the animals
- Cleaning the stables
- Gardening
- Helping prepare meals
- Giving salt to the cows
- Herding the cattle.
Live in on a ranch is always busy and there is always something to do. From herding the cattle back to the ranch Coral to daily feeding of the animals. It is important to be flexible as days can start early as well as tasks are always changing and not everything might happen on time or as planned!
Volunteers will be out on the ranch located in a remote area so on days off, they will have the opportunity to go for trail rides, swimming, atv rides, wildlife viewing and so much more!
