À propos du programme

This project supports the welfare and protection of cats at local shelters.
As the law in Barcelona protects every abandoned animal, local shelters play an important role in managing colonies of stray cats, in promoting their adoption as well as raising awareness for animal abandonment. In the long-term, these shelters aim to reintegrate and re-educate the cats and to find a suitable family for them as well as to reduce future abandonment rates. Due to the law and a large number of animals that need shelter, these spaces are crowded and the volunteer work is crucial to support their mission and improve animals conditions.

As a volunteer, your tasks will vary and can include: cleaning the spaces, assisting with feeding, providing companionship by playing and socializing with the cats. Walking and playing with the cats are very important activities as it allows them to leave the tiny cage in which they have to live most part of the day.
Depending on your skills and length of stay, you may have the opportunity to assist with minor medical treatment, as well as on building fences, campaigns to raise awareness, social media and photography to help promote the shelters.

Logement

You will stay accommodated in a social hostel with a meaningful social mission in Barcelona city.  The Hostel has the capacity to accommodate up to 320 conscious travelers who want to visit Barcelona in a responsible way.

There are various common areas such as dining room, living room, room balconies and outside areas.

The hostel is in a neighborhood where you can find everything you need: a mall, local coffee shops, supermarkets, ATMs, hospital, police and most utilities you will need just around the corner. The Hostel is 5 minutes walking from the metro stop and has many buses and a tranvia running by that can bring you to the city center in 10 minutes.

But what is really unique about it is its social concept. The hostel is actually a social business for a non-profit ran in the same building. The non-profit develops a wide range of programs, campaigns and activities for children and youth, their families and third sector organizations.

Aliments & Boissons

We will provide breakfast and lunch at the hostel everyday. The hostel restaurant offers meals with fresh local ingredients everyday for all volunteers in a very Spanish style and they are prepared to accommodate most diet restrictions such as vegan and vegetarians, gluten-free and lactose intolerant.

For dinner, you can either explore the city or use the kitchen at the accommodation :)

2020 at Animal Protection

In this project, I worked with two more people in a dog and cat shelter. Our job was to walk with the dogs in the morning shift, three hours per day, so we had plenty of contact with the dogs. The negative side is that its a long way from the hostel till the shelter. Its about 1h10, with a lot of ...

2024 at Animal Care and Protection

Honestly, I was surprised, when on the website it shows photos of so many dogs, animals, it turned out I was working at a cat sanctuary. It's not that I was disappointed by the cats, it was just a shock, and also, at points of the sanctuary I feel like I wasn't apart of it massively, there wasn't ...
