À propos du programme

Summary
Art in Tanzania and its partners work with the Tanzanian corporate and government institutions to tackle Corporate Social Responsibility issues. These topics also include actions against climate change.

Details
In the Western world, private citizens' social responsibility is commonly well recognized and introduced in school curriculums and in public advocacy programs.

In Tanzania, private citizens’ social responsibility is poorly known, and the public is not informed about climate change. Corporate policies don’t take social responsibility issues into serious consideration.
At the same time, Tanzania is one of the countries where climate change is strongly affecting the agriculture-based economy.

This program’s goal is to educate the schools and public about social responsibility and to deliver the message in the schools with the help of the Tanzanian business community.

Presently we work with entities such as Dar es Salaam University, TWIGA Cement, Airtel, PVC, NBC Bank, and Coca-Cola, and we are extending the program further. The field operations include working in a tree nursery and partaking in planting operations.

This program has a cross-cutting focus where students of different professions can attend and work together.

Your internship is being daily supervised by academic-level team leaders. We monitor your work with a weekly plan and report system to secure you proceed well in your study program.

The internship outcome is to learn to use and to get experience to implement your education in developing country conditions with limited capacitation. Also to better understand the opportunities in a fast-growing economy.

Interns work in teams of international students and volunteer professionals. We encourage innovation in the program approach. Work hours are 6-8 hours per day, Monday through Friday.

This is an ongoing program so we can adjust your start dates. We accept the applications of all students and alumni. Your placement is tailored according to your background, experience, and interests to empower our daily work with the communities. Your program can be from 2 weeks up to 12 months. You can also conduct thesis and related tasks. The common daily tasks include practical fieldwork, planning, reporting, and visibility tasks.

The start and end dates are flexible and can also accommodate other travel arrangements in Tanzania. International flights, student permits, accommodation, and meals are personal costs.

You and your visiting friends can enjoy sustainable tourism, safaris, and local tour options at a low cost.

To book you in and to open your personal account, we need your tentative arrival and departure dates that can be adjusted.

Journée typique

Common working hours are from AM 9 to PM 1630 but we may have seminars and meetings evening times and weekends as well. The nature of work is to follow the time the target groups are free.

The participant will develop human rights materials, study the present legislation, and changes in the legislation. There are rights issues as LGTB rights that are sensitive in Africa and need to be adjourned accordingly.

Much of the work is to advocate how to implement the present human rights laws. The public in common does not necessarily know their rights and we advocate the vulnerable group as women, children, and disabled people. You will use existing tool kits for seminars but you also develop them and create new ones.

Much time will be used for visibility as for example Facebook is a great tool to reach Tanzanian people. Art in Tanzania's Facebook page has 19k likes and we can deliver information to tens of thousands of Tanzanian people.

Logement

Our eco-compound in Madale village in the Dar es Salaam area has dorms, single, double, and family rooms. As an eco-compound we use our own design composting dry toilets, we collect shower water and urine and use it as "grey water" for our large garden irrigation. Construction materials include bamboo, recycled bottles, and similar. This compound is located in Madale village, so it is a countryside place but a short distance from the city as well.

We charge accommodation with breakfast and dinner only.

Aliments & Boissons

We serve breakfast and dinner as accommodation inclusive. Lunches are available at a nominal cost, but you need to book one every morning as many people are not at the compound we cook and charge only those who are present and wish to have lunch.

Rencontrez votre hôte

Art In Tanzania (AIT) is a non-governmental organization (NGO) registered in Tanzania, Zanzibar, and Finland. The organization launched in 2001, supporting local artists who did not have the resources to develop their talents. Since then, the organization has grown and runs more than 300 volunteer and internship placements in Tanzania, including a record label called Mzuka Records and Fiesta Magazine, a yearly magazine targeting Tanzanian youth.

Art In Tanzania welcomes volunteers and interns to participate in community projects and organizes adventure programs such as safarishistorical tours and climbs to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro! Alums, volunteers, interns and their families can participate in our safari and tourism programs. When you book your trip through AIT, you will have the experience of a lifetime while supporting the local Tanzania community. Art In Tanzania is part of the Children's Agenda Tanzania Program, and volunteers and interns are needed to assist us in the program management and implementation with partners such as UNICEF, Save the Children, and SOS International, among others.

AIT alums include volunteers and interns from all over the world. Volunteer and intern projects are in the fields of Education (all levels), Social Work, Medical and health practice, Social Media, Arts and music, Sports, and HIV/AIDS Awareness.

Art In Tanzania volunteers and interns are in Dar es Salaam, Moshi in Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar. There are around 600 to 1,000 volunteers and interns arriving annually. AIT's support team includes 70 staff members, expatriates, and local officials.
