    À propos du programme

Sayariy has an environmental volunteer program in northern Peru focused on water sustainability, renewable energy, and regenerative agriculture. We address key rural challenges such as limited water access, food insecurity, and lack of sustainable infrastructure. Through a solar-powered water system, we provide water to nearly 20 small community plots that maintain home gardens or small animal breeding spaces, strengthening local resilience and food production.

Volunteers live in a small house located in the middle of a passion fruit plantation, offering a unique and immersive rural experience. The nearest neighbor is approximately 200 meters away, creating a peaceful and natural environment surrounded by agricultural land. Due to the quiet and remote setting, we recommend applying with a travel companion to make the experience more enjoyable and supportive.

Daily responsibilities include working alongside the plantation manager, caring for the dogs that live on the property, maintaining the small on-site garden, cleaning and checking the solar panels, and supporting the water distribution system. Water is distributed to the community plots three times per week. Volunteers also help irrigate the passion fruit plantation and harvest maracuya during production periods.

The program involves practical, hands-on work and requires responsibility, initiative, and adaptability to rural life and warm climate conditions. No technical background is required, but volunteers must be physically active and comfortable with outdoor tasks.

In return, volunteers gain meaningful participation in a sustainability project that directly impacts local families, hands-on experience with renewable energy and water systems, and deep cultural immersion in rural Peru.

    Journée typique

The day begins early in the morning to take advantage of the cooler hours. Volunteers start by caring for rescued dogs and other animals, followed by fieldwork such as harvesting, planting, and general crop care.

As temperatures rise, activities slow down around midday. From late morning until approximately 3:00 PM, volunteers are encouraged to rest indoors, have lunch, and recharge, as the weather can be quite hot.

After 3:00 PM, work resumes with tasks such as filling water tanks, irrigating the plantation, and caring for the garden. Three times a week, volunteers manage water valves to distribute irrigation to community gardens. Solar panel cleaning and system maintenance are also carried out as needed during the cooler afternoon hours.

The day ends with light tasks, shared time, and moments to enjoy the peaceful natural surroundings, creating a balanced routine that respects both nature and personal well-being.

For relaxation, coastal beaches such as Pimentel (about 25 minutes from Chiclayo) and Santa Rosa (around 35 minutes) are easily accessible for swimming, sunsets, and social outings.

Many volunteers travel together during their free time, creating a fun and social atmosphere while discovering cities, beaches, and cultural landmarks close to the project.

Transfert de l'aéroport Cornel Ruiz Airport

Volunteers are picked up upon arrival in Lima, Peru. Our team will meet volunteers at the airport and provide assistance from the moment they arrive in the country.

From Lima, volunteers are personally accompanied to the bus station to travel to Chiclayo. All transportation arrangements are coordinated and purchased by us, ensuring a smooth and safe journey. Volunteers do not need to organize or book internal transportation themselves.

Upon arrival in Chiclayo, volunteers are picked up at the bus station and transported directly to the eco-volunteer accommodation at the project site in the Zaña Valley.

Volunteers only need to arrive in Lima — from there, the Sayariy team takes care of everything, providing guidance, coordination, and support all the way to their final destination.

    Logement

Volunteers stay in a small eco-cabin located within the plantation, surrounded by nature and agricultural land in the Zaña Valley near Chiclayo. The cabin is situated approximately 600 meters from a small local village and 5 kilometers from the larger town of Cayaltí, where volunteers can find banks, pharmacies, small shops, and other essential services.

The eco-cabin offers a quiet and immersive rural experience, ideal for volunteers seeking a simple and sustainable lifestyle. It includes sleeping space, a kitchen with basic cooking equipment, and access to water and electricity powered by renewable energy systems. Volunteers who prefer to cook for themselves have everything needed for daily meals.

Daily volunteer activities such as animal care, gardening, and fieldwork are within walking distance. A bicycle is available at the house to help volunteers move easily between the cabin, nearby villages, and surrounding areas.

A local family lives approximately 200 meters away and offers optional shared meals, providing an opportunity for cultural exchange and connection with the community. Living conditions are simple but comfortable, encouraging independence, responsibility, and a close connection with nature.

    Informations sur l'arrivée

The Eco-Volunteer program offers flexible start dates throughout the year, arranged in advance according to availability and project needs. However, we recommend volunteering between April and October, when temperatures are cooler and conditions are more comfortable. Outside of this period, temperatures increase and rainfall is more frequent.

Volunteers usually arrive in Lima, Peru’s capital. For those traveling by bus to Chiclayo, our team can pick you up,  assist and guide volunteers to the bus station in Lima. Once in Chiclayo, volunteers are picked up and transported directly to the volunteer house and project location.

After arrival, volunteers begin a three-day induction period. This orientation is designed to help volunteers settle in and adapt smoothly to the eco-volunteer lifestyle. During these days, volunteers are introduced to daily routines, animal care, garden and fieldwork, water distribution and irrigation systems, solar energy maintenance, and house guidelines.

This arrival and induction process ensures that volunteers feel welcomed, informed, and fully prepared before starting their regular responsibilities.
