At our Dog Care Program volunteers will work with the many stray dogs that live on the streets of Cusco. Our Shelter is just outside Cusco’s city and accommodates about 30 dogs that were living in extreme poor conditions, had been abandoned and were really sick.
The shelter gives home for dogs that had a hard life on the streets. And now have food and care. They are looked after by volunteers that organize the project and work, making sure they are all in good condition and well looked after. The work usually is in the mornings when cleaning, feeding and other works take place.
The project is made possible entirely by private contributions. The Shelter receives no local, state or federal funding and depend on the generosity of people like you to meet our annual operating budget.
This project requires volunteers who are innovative, motivated, and willing to take charge. Tasks may include networking with small organizations that would like to help the dogs, raising funds, location searching, and direct work with the dogs, like feeding, cleaning, taking care for sick dogs and a small help with constructions to make the living of the little ones a little better.
We will give you the equipment you will need for working, but during raining season (November to March) you may require to bring rubber boots so you can walk around the project easily and it is important that you bring adequate clothing as you will get a little dirty.
Upon arrival in Cusco, we will be waiting for you at Cusco’s airport, from where we will go to our host family. We will be given a health & safety and program orientation, and you will have time to rest.
Monday morning, we will meet and you will be given a briefing about your project. Then we will take the public bus to the project, where you will be introduced to the director and can start working.

We pick volunteers up from Cusco airport and transfer them to their accommodations. Flight information needs to be sent to us prior arrival in Perú.
Most volunteers will stay in a homestay where they will live with a local family. Volunteers can expect to share a room with one or two other. We highly recommend staying with a family; that way you will also learn the Peruvian way of life, meet local people, eat typical food, speak the language (Spanish) and engage in local customs and traditions.
Volunteers will be sharing bathroom and common areas with other volunteers and members of the family.
2 meals are included (breakfast and dinner). Volunteers can expect to experience a variety of flavors and meals during their experience as Peruvian food is diverse. We will be glad to let the family know if you have special eating needs. Please let us know ahead of time so that we can make arrangements for you.
Once you arrive in Cusco, please pick up your bags and then step out of the airport. Our PEVolunteer representative will be waiting for you there with a sign that has your name written on it.
The first day of volunteer’s program (normally Sunday) is upon arrival in Cusco, Volunteer will be pickup from the airport and then transfer to host family. Here volunteers will have the day to rest and acclimatize.
FLIGHT INFORMATION NEEDS TO BE SENT TO US PRIOR ARRIVAL IN PERÚ.
First day! Your IntroductionVolunteers orientation will begin on Monday at around 9:00 am at our office in Cusco and will be conducted by our staff. It will cover everything you need to know for your volunteer placement in the city including an introduction to Peru, Peruvian customs, Spanish classes, rules and expectations, safety, travel opportunities in Peru, and an introduction to your project and placement. Once our orientation is complete, volunteers will be transported to their projects, usually by public bus, with some exception of some walking distance projects. Upon arrival, Volunteer will be introduced to projects Directors and can start working at the same day.
