About the Program
Do you have passion for theater, travelling and helping young children? Volunteer with India offers people like you the fantastic opportunity to teach underprivileged young children living in the iconic Pink City of Jaipur. During your time on the program you will be placed at a local school or orphanage where you’ll have the freedom to create and organize your very own program. Volunteers have to put on plays, teach dance routines, make masks/puppets and facilitate scenes from well-known scripts. Volunteers may also wish to consider teaching core performance techniques (acting, singing, dancing), teaching scenes from musicals or teaching children how to make their own costumes.
There is a lack of free, quality education in Jaipur. The children you will teach don’t usually receive theater education, so all will be inexperienced and some will be shy. Furthermore, many of the children in the schools are children from difficult backgrounds; therefore volunteers who can find a balance between sensitivity and fun are perfect for these children who aren’t given the chance to experience the excitement of education. The beauty of this program is that we can see how the children’s confidence, happiness and unity increases during the program process.
The project was created in 2010.The project is based in Jaipur, India, a city which is also called Pink City. The children in our center need attention and support from the volunteers.Volunteers can help them to deal with their sad past and so they can reach their full potential. English speaking volunteers can also help the children practicing English which is also good for their future.
Mission of the Project
Our mission is to provide the best care and protection for these children; to preserve and protect their childhood rights. To bring them back into society by providing them with their basic necessities for life. Teaching them about art can build their confidence in their future.
Role of the Volunteer
You as a volunteer will be involved in
activities such as teaching theater, making sets, design it, music selections, making masks, and organize the program. We don’t need an expert actor, director or an artist. We just want for our volunteer to offer love to the children, support them in trying out being theater actors and to help the ones that are talented but are shy or just not able to bring it out. There is a lack of theater education in the city. We expect the volunteers to offer good help and to be good teachers in the workshops. Volunteers can also work in the children's rural areas. This helps to building up confidence and makes them be more united. Besides it helps them seeing their future with more hope and joy. The volunteers are also asked to support the orphanage children in drama play. The children at the orphanages are always eager to learn new things and this shows them the fun part of life, at the end of the day the children fall asleep with a smile on their faces.
Employees
We run this
project with our partner NGO which has local volunteers who take care of these
