À propos du programme

Summary

Art in Tanzania is developing children and youth sports programs at the village level in Tanzania. The main focus is on youth football and girls' sports activities. This program is also part of the Children’s Agenda approach where our coalition includes UNICEF and other large organizations.

Details

Tanzanian communities are lacking capacities to run children and youth sports programs. Commonly children make their football grounds themselves and play with makeshift balls. Organized Coaching is rare.

Currently, Art in Tanzania is focused on developing youth football. We develop structures for village tournaments and select talented children for more advanced training. Tanzanian sports teachers are voluntarily assisting the program and our task is to develop a proper football education system. We are also developing girl’s teams and diversified coaching of other team sports.

Interns help to structure programs, to train our Tanzanian coaches, advise about sports in schools, perform coaching activities with the local coaches, and organize tournaments.

Interns are working in a team of international and Tanzanian multi-professional intern teams. We encourage innovation in the program approach. Mr. Francis Hoti tutors this work.

We are looking to expand our field of international volunteering and internships to empower our work in Tanzania. This is an ongoing program and we can adjust the starting dates.

Journée typique

Sports activities take place after school and working hours. Our sports program takes place mainly in the village we live in so the distances are short.

Those attending the school sports hours teaching will more to the schools starting AM 9. We need to schedule the working upon the curriculums in the schools preferably combining 2 to 3 schools per day to get enough hours.

Then when kids come back home we run the village sports program where football is the main focus but we can also introduce other sports.
Commonly we run tournaments between different parts of the village for different ages teams and we also emphasize keeping girl's teams going on. It is very hectic as football is the most important thing for an African kid.

All the above happens between PM 4 and PM 6.30 and then it comes dark.

On weekends we support the elder people weekend training/rehearsal activities that are aerobics, jogging, and similar, and at the same time, we can perform health advocacy activities.

We highlight social media content to perform visibility for your and our work but also to deliver health advocacy. Our Facebook has about 19,000 likes and it is a great tool to reach the Tanzanian public in common.

Logement

Our eco-compound in Madale village in the Dar es Salaam area has dorms, single, double, and family rooms. As an eco-compound we use our own design composting dry toilets, we collect shower water and urine and use it as "grey water" for our large garden irrigation. Construction materials include bamboo, recycled bottles, and similar. This compound is located in Madale village, so it is a countryside place but a short distance from the city as well.

We charge accommodation with breakfast and dinner only.

Art In Tanzania (AIT) is a non-governmental organization (NGO) registered in Tanzania, Zanzibar, and Finland. The organization launched in 2001, supporting local artists who did not have the resources to develop their talents. Since then, the organization has grown and runs more than 300 volunteer and internship placements in Tanzania, including a record label called Mzuka Records and Fiesta Magazine, a yearly magazine targeting Tanzanian youth.

Art In Tanzania welcomes volunteers and interns to participate in community projects and organizes adventure programs such as safarishistorical tours and climbs to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro! Alums, volunteers, interns and their families can participate in our safari and tourism programs. When you book your trip through AIT, you will have the experience of a lifetime while supporting the local Tanzania community. Art In Tanzania is part of the Children's Agenda Tanzania Program, and volunteers and interns are needed to assist us in the program management and implementation with partners such as UNICEF, Save the Children, and SOS International, among others.

AIT alums include volunteers and interns from all over the world. Volunteer and intern projects are in the fields of Education (all levels), Social Work, Medical and health practice, Social Media, Arts and music, Sports, and HIV/AIDS Awareness.

Art In Tanzania volunteers and interns are in Dar es Salaam, Moshi in Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar. There are around 600 to 1,000 volunteers and interns arriving annually. AIT's support team includes 70 staff members, expatriates, and local officials.

I recently came back from Tanzania with a friend of mine, we went to volunteer for 2 weeks on the women empowerment programme hosted by Art in Tanzania. I'd like to suggest you remove Art in Tanzania from this platform. All the money that we paid do not go towards the compound or the programmes. ..
